I noticed that we don't have a place to introduce ourselves... so here we are!

I'm Jess, 25.  My son Evan is my preemie.  He was born at 34 weeks 6 days (so we normally just go with 35 weeks).  The whole pregnancy was plagued with problems: Hypermesis gravidum, complete placental previa until 34 weeks, an incompetent cervix, too much amniotic fluid, as well as preterm labor starting at 32 weeks.  His birth was extremely sudden... I wasn't dialated at all at 11 pm, and he was born at 4:34 am.  I didn't even know I was in labor until 8 minutes before he was born.  I ended up also having a placental abruption and the cord was around his neck multiple times.
I also have another child, a daughter named Natalie (she's 2 months today)... she was born at 38 weeks, so she's my "healthy" child...
There's a lot to the story of Evan's NICU stay, but I won't get into that now.

I'm your group admin (Donna is the group owner), so if you ever have a problem, just let me know!

I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone!

Hello ladies! I am Vona and I am a 30 year old from VA. My son Christian is a 31 weeker. He was born July 19, 2006 (exactly 2 months premature). He weighed 2# 13oz and was 16 inches long. My whole pregnancy was something to be reckoned with. I had hyperemesis gravida, Gall Bladder removal, genetic counseling due to possibly of Down Syndrome (he doesn't have, but we were totally accepting of it) then Placental Failure which ultimately led to c-section. We were able to get both steriod shots beforehand. Christian spent 6 weeks in the NICU and came home 2 weeks prior to his due date and weighing 5 pounds. He was on an apnea monitor for about 6 months after coming home. He also had bilateral inguinal hernia repair 1 month after coming home. He developed torticollis (aka wry neck) and started physical therapy in March. (his head was getting pretty flat on the right side). He still goes to therapy since the Neonatal Specialist still recommends it for walking. He is scheduled to have hypospadia repair at the end of November. It has been a long road, but definitely one we have enjoyed. After seeing some of your pics and reading your stories, mine doesn't seem as serious. Christian is our miracle baby and has improved our lives tremendously.

So glad to be here!

Hello All, I am new to this group.  My name is Jenny, mother of 3 great kids.  First son, Caleb is 16yo now, he was 2 weeks early because of my high blood pressure issues, but he was very healthy.  Second,my daughter, Michaela is now 11y.  I went into premature labor at 32 weeks, had to take meds off and on for 6 weeks to stop the contractions.  Finally, at 40 weeks delivered a healthy baby girl.

#3 my angel baby! Eli, now 2.5y.  Eli was born emergency c-section at 32.5 weeks.  I was in the hospital for 2 weeks before because of Hydronephrosis of my kidney.  I had 3 stint surgeries, during pregnancy, to get my kidneys to function properly and one afterward.  This pregnancy was particularly rough on my body.  Almost immediately I started having severe migraines that would put me in the ER several times.  Then the kidney issues started at 5 months preg.  The day Eli was born, I was experiencing high blood and migraines while I was on a morphine drip.  The doctor thought it was the Magnesium, so he took me off the Mag.  Within 30 minutes I started seizing and they rushed me into surgery.  I only saw Eli for about 30 seconds just coming out of anesthesia before they had to take him to Children's NICU, I was at Southview Hospital.  It was 5 days before I was able to leave the hospital to see Eli.  Those were the hardest 5 days of my entire life, I could not even imagine what my baby looked like or touch him.  Pictures did not help, it only made it worse.  Finally, I was able to be released from the hospital to see him for 2 hours.  It was another 24 hours before I was discharged from the hospital.

Eli weighed 5lbs 3oz at birth, within 10 days he lost almost a pound, dropping down to 4lbs 4oz..  He was only intubated for 24 hours, but for 2 weeks kept having Brady-Apnea episodes.  His little heart would stop and he would stop breathing.  He finally got through an entire week without any episodes and started gaining weight during week 3.  On the 21st day, he got to come home at not quite 6lbs.

Eli battled pneumonia and asthma issues for the first 18 months, we couldn't go outside very much this summer because of the severe heat and we can't go outside when it is real cold, because of his asthma.  But he is growing like a weed and excelling in every area of learning abilities.  He learned sign language, by the time he was almost 15 months old he had a 30 sign vocabulary.  Of course, now that he can talk he doesn't use his signs very often anymore:(  He is now using 5 to 7 word sentences, knows his colors, shapes, and is starting to learn how to count.

Anyway, that is our story!  I look forward to meeting everyone!

Hi, I'm Jennifer, 24. I'm married to my Husband of 2 yrs. We have two Daughters, Liana who is 2 1/2 and Aliya who is 7 mos. Liana was our Preemie! She was born at 31wks, she weighed 4lbs 3oz, and was 19 inches long. I had a good pregnancy up until that day i had her. It started at about Noon, and I was having cramps and back pain, i told everyone i was hurting, they said oh your fine. Well at the end of the day i was done w/my last patient and went to the restroom. As i was walking i felt this gush of wetness, when i got to the bathroom, i realized it was all blood, and kept coming. I got to the hospital and they told me that i was contracting and that i was going to have to have an emergency c-section. I had Placenta Abrupta, my placenta completly seperated from my uterus. The SETON Medical Center team came from Austin, to pick her up, and i saw her for about 5 min, still recovering from the anesthesia. I had her on a friday, by that sunday she was breathing on her own. She stayed in the NICU for 3 weeks, and came home the day before Fathers day! She is now 2 1/2, and is doing wonderful, she loves her sister, and loves dancing!!

I had Braxton Hicks for 2 months but that's normal. Atlest the doc said it was. I began to bleed when I was 33 weeks and some days. November 4, 2006 I was getting ready to go to a bday party when it started. I went to the hospital, they gave me magnesium sulfate 3 times and put me on a helicopter. I stayed in the bed for 3 days and then they told me her placenta wasnt letting her grow anymore and she was the size of a 30 weeker. She came into the world after being induced weighing 3 lb 6oz. She didnt have any problems she just had to gain weight and be able to eat with a bottle. She was in the hospital for 20 days. Now she weighs 16 lbs. 8 oz. and is doing great. Sadie turned 1 on Nov 7th. The only thing we have had problems with is her ears and we are going to have them checked Mon.

Im Delora, Married almost 3 years to My hubby Jimmy & mother to Hunter Lee who was born at 28 weeks. he weighed in at 1 pound 12.7 ounces. 13 inches.
I had a really bad pregnancy, severe Hyperemesis (sp?) and spent the first 5 months in and out of the hospital. the last month i was in heaven for a while thinking i finally was thru being sick, by this time i had lost 13 pounds!
we lived in Biloxi, MS and we got hit by Katrina. I evacuated and came back to no electric * 90 degree weather. so i left. i couldnt handle it. i went up to a cousins house in alabama where she got me set  up at the hospital she worked at to get my overdue appointment. there i found out i had really high keytones. the protein levels were way too high, and i had gained 10 punds in about 2 weeks, i couldnt even see my ankles anymore, they were sooo swollen. so they did all the urine testing and decided i had symptoms of preeclampsia and ended up admitting me into L&D where they told me they were going to keep me as long as possible before having to deliver him ( they were estimating weeks...)
they were all very confused because i was only having one or two symptoms at a time. they would go away and id have different ones. so they did all the stress testing and monitered the baby for a little bit. they gave me the steroid shots and the magnesium.  they then decided i had preeclampsia and Hunter was losing weight, not gaining.

about half an hour after telling me i would be in there for weeks.... they were telling me okay we are going to have this baby... NOW!

and from there, we had a baby.... he spent the next 76 days in the NICU, he only had to use the cpap and the oxyhood for a while. the only time he ever used a respirator was when he had to have hernia surgery. he gained up to 4 pounds then we finally got to take our little man home.

he is now 2 and doing great!
