What Are You Willing To Give Up?

When working from home we must all understand there are many ways to do so.  However, most of those ways will cost you some money.

I do understand that with the current economic crisis we are in that money is tight for many people right now

However, most people will note its the money involved to start that holds them back simply because we are all scared to fork that money out.  I know that I was scared about the money when I first joined my business because its the unknown.  Why spend money on something that I had no clue would work out for me.  I was scared to pay the cost to start and then the monthly cost.  I had no clue that it would work out.  None of us ever do.  We are HOPING for a better future and for a CHANGE!

Those of you that honestly do not have an extra penney to spare right now, this isn't towards you because things could be so tough you have no place to cut back on.

For others though the thing that I want you all to put some thought into is:

I want you to ask yourself, and be honest with yourself.  What are the things you spend money on each month?  We are always told to do this for budgeting purposes but most of us never do.  You'll be surprised with what you come up with!

  1. Do you buy pizza
  2. Eat Out?  How many times a month?
  3. Buy Starbucks?
  4. Rent Movies?
  5. Buy Gum/Candy/Soda on commutes?
  6. Lunch when you work outside of home?
  7. Do you have fake nails?
  8. Do you get pedicures?
  9. Do you pay for premium channels like HBO?
  10. Do you buy brand names?

Think about what luxuries you have each month and then think about what you could give up.

We need to be honest with ourselves to find out exactly what we are willing to give up in order to change our future for the better.  We can all give something up.

I myself gave up my nails.  That's what I did.  Here I am today in a different place than I was 4 years ago.  I'm thankful for giving up my nails and to this day I've never put them back on.

I'm looking forward to hearing what others gave up so they can change their future by working from home!

If you are looking to work from home I'm looking forward to hearing what you WILL be giving up to do so!  :)

Great Post! I can say that for me I wasn't as nervous about the start up costs. I knew that the company was legit, I knew that people were making money. What made me so nervous was my own lack of confidence. I was 20 years old when I started working from home and most of the women on my team were my mother's age. I felt like no one would take me seriously because of my age.

2 years later I've been through the ups and downs. There were time when I let the lack of confidence pull me down. After a while I finally learned that there are people out there that need help. They are drowning in their current situation and they need help...I can help them! They don't care how old the person is that throws out the life preserver! Now I'm happier and more successful than ever!

Susan!

I was reading through a few peoples posts and was thinking pretty much what you just wrote. THANK YOU for writing this! I think that people are looking for a quick and easy way to make money and that is why they are getting scammed. They are so quick to throw out something they have to put money into and not put "the work" into WORKING that they will continue to be scammed or disappointed! I feel terrible for these people and I know some really dont have the funds but if you want change make it happen whatever way you know. Do the research and invest in something that has proof of income and that you will enjoy. Also know that you will still have to work hard....but the benefits in the long run are incredible! I like to say...make your money work for you instead of you working for your money. I looked for over 2 years and finally found a great new company with an amazing pay plan. Yes I had to invest but I made back the investment in my first month. I think of it as my business overhead...and having my own business means investing but its the cheapest investment when it comes to being my own CEO! Anyway, Thanks again for your words of wisdom and good luck in all you do!!!!

Great post. People need to realize that starting a home business means investment and commitment. If you want to see success in your future you need to start investing your time and money. If people are worried about investing they can turn to this group for some advice...or get a "job".

If you don't have anything to "give up" so you can set aside money to get started, what about selling what you already have? I have had a yard sale or sold items on ebay to get the money I needed for a business. How bad do you want to change your situation?

I think this is the 3rd time I have read this post, I know it is older but such a great topic, especially for all of those out trying to make a decision between a WAH job or a business.  What caught my eye was your list Susan, and today I realized it was not what I had to give up but what I was willing to change or do differently.

I know that with my business I did not have to give anything up, except my job. With my business, I simply changed the way I was doing things, still shop at the same places, eat at the same resturaunts, not only do I save money but I make money.  As mom's we already give up so much, yes it's wise to budget and prioritize but what I get from cafemom and the WAH groups is that we all want a better life for ourselves and our families.

Just thought I would put a twist on it.

I LOVE your post!  What I find interesting is that everyone says they have no money for this and that.  But like you say they continue to SPEND in areas that are not necessities.  I really like the teachings of Tim Sales when he shows you what the RICH buy on payday.  The RICH go out and buy more non-tangible things like businesses, investments, things that will MAKE them money.  The poor go to the dollar store, or Wal-mart or out to eat or finance a new car each payday, buying things that COST them money and not bringing them money.

It is all about your mindset.  I often am amazed at how excited everyone gets when there is NO start up cost.  Where is your commitment if you aren't willing to INVEST your money to work hard to get it back?  When I INVEST a small startup fee, you know I will VALUE the company's trainings, and I will work HARD to get my money back and then some.

When you look at most of the richest persons out there, they had to spend 100,000's of dollars and sometimes $1 Mill (that is how much McDonald's costs) to start their businesses.  You are darned tooten that they are willing to SCARIFICE their time to recoup that money!  Many of those millionaires even lost millions and billions at one time and built themselves back up!

In our direct sales businesses we are not even talking thousands!  Maybe a few hundred of dollars and for those who WORK it and sacrifice those little things the rewards are GREAT!

I think this is an excellent post!

You have a fabulous post and I know there are many people out there who do not realize they are able to give up some things in order to pay the start-up cost for a business.

However, there are people out there - such as myself - that do not purchase anything frivolous, rent movies, go out for pizza, have cable or HBO, etc so we do not have anything else to give up.  I myself am already so strapped that I literally have my checkbook budgeted down to the dollar.   In fact, next week I have an appt to start donating plasma - they pay for it.

I'm looking for a WAH job that I can do, either part or full time, that does not require any upfront cost or anything that I have to continue to purchase each month in order to stay with the company.

I have 15 yrs of receptionist / secretary work and also hold a current health and life insurance license; yes I am bondable.

If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate a PM.

Thank you,

Kristeen

EXCELLENT!!   Someone called me the other day about my business and said "I  don't want a business I have to pay for"  Huh??   We have a special promotion with a Free entry level position (because the enrollment fee was waived).  People complain even about that!   A business needs to be treated like a business.

Time and committment is a MUST!  The bottom line is that your "Why"  has to be big enough. What are you doing this business for?  to pay for school, send kids to a private school, pay off a bill?  Save for a vacation, little extra money for the kids?  The "why"  has to be big enough to compel the business owner to commit. If you do nothing, you get nothing!
