 "I'm sorry you're mad."? That's not the same as being sorry that you just fucked up.

My husband has learned not to say things like that. I've told him that I have learned not to expect him to always understand why I am mad, If he tries to tell me there is no reason for me to be mad though he knows he will get in even worse trouble

 Oh yeah...just as bad as "I'm sorry you're upset" or "I'm sorry your feelings are hurt." How about being sorry for whatever you did to make me mad, upset, or hurt my feelings?! I mean, really?
