first time buying health insurance (CIGNA). help! i'm so confused!!

does anyone here have cigna (or anything else) and knows anything about it?  i just started working full-time so i FINALLY get health insurance through work!  BUT i have no idea what i'm doing.  i litterally just signed up for whatever cost the most because i figured it was the best coverage.

so, my plan is called open access plus ppo.  on cigna's site you can search for doctors.  but the options to use for search are open access plus and seperately there is a ppo option.  i can't figure out if i'm open access plus or ppo!  i tried to search for a general physician but it said that with a ppo you can only see a specialist.  so i clicked open access plus instead and then it let me search for one.  the only problem is i don't know which one i actually have (or is it both?).  I'M SO CONFUSED!!!!!

can anyone help clear this up for me?  thanks!!!!!!!!

lol, we have cigna.  i am not quite sure what our plan is called but it is soooo confusing.  we get 2000 dollars in our account at the beginning of every year that pays for everything until it runs out then we have to meet 2 deductibles then our insurance pays for everything 100%.  i had to call the insurance company to explain everything to me before i had matthew.  i would just call the number on the back of your card and ask them.  good luck!

i litterally just signed up so i don't have a card yet :)  i just got my booklet today so i did all of the online stuff that it told me to (i only had 9 days from today to enroll).  i'm wondering if i'm already insured or if i have to wait until the first time my payment is taken out of my check (or if i have like a 90 day waiting period or something).  i thought i'd have to wait to sign up because even though i've worked for the company for 2 years straight (and for awhile a few years before that) i've only been full-time for 3 weeks.

i think i'll probably just call when i'm off on monday :)

we had Cigna before my hubby took his new job and we had the same exact plan you have.  Cigna's coverage is awesome.  i actually miss it.  lol.  when searching for a doctor you go under the open access plus to find the doctor.

as for the date that you are covered that all depends on the company you work for and what their policy on it is.

i looked and it said i was "covered" actually starting on the first but everything (including medical) was waived until i changed it tonight :)  i'm so excited to see a doctor!!!!!!!  i've had my mirena in since april of 2004 so it was supposed to come out a LONG time ago!!!

Love Cigna! We have the best coverage! I would think that the open access plus ppo is both. We just have the Cigna 100 plan I believe!  You can always call their customer service number they are very helpful or at least they have been when I've called!

Not sure... we have Kaiser (love them). Ours is an HMO a little different than yours. Here is a bump though!

We had 2 options and both were HMOs.... kaiser was the cheaper of the 2 and I am NOT at all disappointed. We haven't had one issue with them. It has been great! Good luck mama, that stuff confuses the hell out of me too! lol
