At around a year old I made a real effort to move them to some other comfort item. Oldest picked a bear, youngest has her blanket.

Dd only took it till she was like 4 months, then started chewing on the back of it (she started teething! Lol) I think it depends. But I say they should be off it in public by the time they are 2 at the latest (night time ok) but for sure by 3.

well i took it away when he was about 9-10 mths and it just b.c. he lost it when we went on a walk and i just never bought another one. (being that we just came off a road trip from VA to CO and he lost 3 on the way.) i figured if he is letting these things go that easily he must not be too interested in them anymore

My daughter was 3 and a half before we got rid of hers. She had a lot of anxiety problems and needed it. I am not ashamed of her having it. It helped us many many times to get her through stressful situations. She needed hers.

i think if you give it by 2ish you should take it away because by then they should be able to understand that they are not babies anymore and you can explain to them that it is going away and they understand it
