The Goverment is trying to pass a bill that will affect food stamps. It wants to regulate what can be bought. Basically banning/monitoring junk food. The list they are proposing is....what do you guys think? Should this bill be passed? Does the goverment have a right to control what people with food stamps buy?

Add to the list of items that may not be purchased with
57  federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program funds
58  nonstaple, unhealthy foods. Such prohibited items include, but
59  are not limited to, foods containing trans fats; sweetened
60  beverages, including sodas; sweets, such as jello, candy, ice
61  cream, pudding, popsicles, muffins, sweet rolls, cakes,
62  cupcakes, pies, cobblers, pastries, and doughnuts; and salty
63  snack foods, such as corn-based salty snacks, pretzels, party
64  mix, popcorn, and potato chips.

I don't think they should ban it all together, but maybe give a small amount a month for stuff like that.

If your saying their money as in the governments money then your wrong. Its our money taken as taxes from our paychecks. Personally though I don't care if the government wants to regulate this. If I was on food stamps I wouldn't complain I'd be happy for the help I was getting.

my children eat healthy my son has adhd so everything in my house has to be cooked. breakfast lunch and dinner. nothing sweet no soda or juice. but sometimes people have to get things for school parties.. next week is valentines day and the school is asking people to donate stuff like cupcakes and cookies juice and candy so if all parents cant help then we wont have a very good party. so i think that they shouldnt be able to do this!!

Call it what you want, their money or our money. We pay it, but they are responsible for giving it out and regulating it. I'm not and have never been on FS and I would be happy with what I got.
