I've been on antibiotics three times this year for flu symptoms, my tonsils have been swollen since around Christmas time last year. I started feeling sick last night and tried to not make a big deal about it just take some OTC medicine and be done with it, well around 1pm today it got worse, I can't swallow anything and it hurts so bad to talk. They have told me several times if I get sick and my tonsils swell again they want to remove them, but they haven't gone down in several months! If they put me on antibiotics so many times in a row doesn't your body start to become immune to the medicine and it's not as effective? I'm not one to take medicine I'm huge on home remedies and figuring it out on my own before even thinking of calling a doctor. But this year I haven't been able to stay out of the docs office because every time I turn around I've caught another virus. If I go to the hospital instead can they just remove my tonsils and call it a day?

Does anyone have any home remedies to share for swollen tonsils, sore throat, stuff like that? I've tried everything I could think of.

I drink honey and Traditional Medicinals Throat Coat tea to soothe my throat when its sore, but your issue sounds more serious than that.

I don't think you typically just check into the hospital and get your tonsils removed. Unless it's an emergency surgery, it's usually scheduled ahead of time through your doctor/specialist. You can't just walk in and have them remove the tonsils.

Warm tea with honey and lemon along with drinking plenty of liquids is what we usually do.  I hope you feel better soon!

Tattling with warm salt water. You maybe have some kind of abscess in your tonsils, and that is why you can't shake the ick.

I started having trouble with my tonsils almost 2 yrs ago.I would start to feel like I had the flu and then my tonsils and throat would hurt SO bad that I wouldn't be able to talk or swallow for days.It happened every month. That went on for 9 months and the ENT said my tonsils HAD to go.I've had so much relief in the 9 months since they were removed! Not "sick" even once since then.It really, really is worth the surgery!I hope you feel better :)

Listerine. It burns like someone is stabbing MILLIONS of flaming swords into your throat. But it does work wonders and helps heal them. I need mine removed but can't afford to. They get so infected and swollen my entire throat turns into one huge blister.

1st You should not be on antibiotics for the flu. When you have a virus there is nothing antibiotics can do. Just like with a cold. I do not go to the dr unless it's for pregnancy or if one of my kids have strep throat. Same with my kids, I don't take them unless they have run a fever longer than 24 hours.

Honey is a natural way to help coughing and a sore throat. I take a tablespoon of local honey every day. (it helps with local allergies bc the bees are getting pollen from local places)

OTC- I love liquid DayQuil and liquid tylenal. Those two brands tend to work faster than anything and make me feel better.

Drink lots of fluids, water or G2 are the best. IMO.
