So much money to save for SO's license

My SO has not had a license for 10years because he was pulled over for speeding in a work zone rushing to get his ex to work. She has a very good job and never offered to help him get his license back while together. now that him and i have been together for a year its been hard to save money. we just found out today it will cost him $700 plus a $500 reinstatement fee to get his license back. I feel so stuck because I try to help him save some of my money to but in the meantime I cant fix my car or buy hardly anything. his ex has a brand new car, nice clothes and lives with her mother and father and pays no rent even though shes 30. I feel its very unfair. I'm trying to help and we are together and I would expect him to help me if I were in the situation but its very draining. he has a very limited income because he is legally disabled due to MS.

I agree, that IS a lot of money for just one offense. I don't know where OP lives, but in NYS a lot of the time they do suspend your license if you don't pay the original fine, and then you have to pay a fee to get the suspension lifted as well, but even with fines doubled in a work zone, i'm not sure it would be that much for one fine.

he lost it 10 years ago, and you've only been together for a year, but you're stressing out on how to help him pay for it? i'm sorry, but no way in hell would I do that! in ten years i'm sure your SO has had the chance to save up and pay it on his own! if he really wanted it taken care of, he would have done it by now. jmo.

Well there's no way I'd take the ex's money. You guys can do this !! If need be cant you borrow the money from your parents/family member or his?? Then just tell Them all you can pay back is $25 a week. And go
From there
