The ridge you see in the city, we live on the other side of that ridge (the western slope).
This is my city... these are my mountains... Waldo Canyon was my favorite place to hike.
Evacuations from Manitou Springs, Cascade, Green Mountain faills, Chipita Park... Garden of the God's is shut down, the "Pikes Peak Highway" is shut down.
My city is in danger, my friends are being evacuated, and my beautiful front range of the Rocky Mountains is burning to ash. My heart is so broken right now!! Please send us your prayers, good wishes, thoughts and whatever else it is you send... we need rain (100+ record temps expected all week).
I'm just so upset!!!!
UPDATE:::: We're up to 4500 acres and 5 % containment as of 10:15pm Monday night. My family went to ice cream and we watched as a small orange glow burst into a large mass of fire in the course of 10 minutes? Or so? It's coming over the ridge that they were trying to stop it from. If it gets over this ridge, and into Queens Canyon, it will funnel the fire right into the Springs. Idk if I can sleep tonight....
My brother works in Cripple Creek, but lives here in the Springs... HWY 24 is shut down starting just off of I-25 so there's no getting to Cripple Creek right now... my brother can't go to work!
There was a fire last week up in Divide, MUCH closer to CC... but that's been contained as of yesterday? I think? Or the day before...
We're up to 3,000 acres, we declared a "local emergency" (not state, or national yet), and over 11,000 people have been evacuated. It's slowly creeping towards us in the Springs...

We just moved to Oklahoma from over by salida. My in laws live in cripple creek. It's awful they said. We will continue to pray for y'all
my inlaws are evacuees from the high park fire by red feather lakes and their house is currently 100 yards from the flames..... we understand what you are feeling/going thru all too well.
I hope they get some of these fires under control asap! There are currently 9 burning right now!
It's awful! and the ones near us (Elbert, Waldo Canyon and Divide) are all suspected Arson!!!! Who is so heartless?!?!
I'm sooooo so very sorry for the fear/anxiety they must be dealing with. And the damage that has probably already happened from the smoke/intense heat. My heart breaks for them. It truly does! I can't even fathom having to leave all of your life behind and hope the fire doesn't reach your home...I hope they are okay, and dealing with it all...
I guess I didn't realize I was such a nature freak until I saw MY mountains burning down. This is the closest it's ever been to the springs in... I think all of recorded history, from what they've been saying.
I spend all my summers in those very mountains, on those very trails... and it's all gone. Just gone. Oh good lord I'm going to cry again....lol. I gotta stop thinking about it!!!!

Good luck mama! For all of it's faults this makes me glad I live in New Jersey. I would be so scared.
I'm so sorry mama. My thoughts are with your city.
