Epilepsy awareness is being given to everyone today because 8 yrs ago i had became diagnosed with epilepsy and think everyone should know my story and i think id love to meet others !

i woke up shacking my hands was shacking feet was shacking, eyes ran to the back of my head, and couldnt talk, was not concious was able to see my mother but couldnt respond, than after the Grandmall seizure i was unable to walk for 4 hours, and everynight after that i had seizures every morning waking it, i ended up finding out i was in risk of dieing due to my heart stopping while i was having the spells, so they rushed me for surgery and gave me a pacemaker, and was able to do surgery on me so i wouldnt have a problem with my heart, after the surgery was said and done i woke up feeling like bricks was on my chest, couldnt walk for a while after and when i did start i had to begin at the beginning like a baby!, my story is told to everyone because i believe everyone can fight illnesses, and everyone can remain strong only if we are there for support, and thats why i made this post to let everyone know about epilepsy awareness!

Hope everyone has a good 4th, and feel free to comment if u have a story of epilepsy and express ur struggles, or if u have a health story need to be told THANK YOU! :)

One of my siblings had epilepsy when she was going through puberty - petit mal epilepsy, now known as absence epilepsy. She grew out of it when she was a teen, but when she was pregnant, she did have some mild absence seizures that caused her to lose chunks of time. She had to be carefully monitored during delivery in case she had another seizure.

My younger brother had epilepsy. We never knew what his triggers were or really what caused it to happen. Unfortunately twelve years ago he drowned in the bathtub after getting up in the middle of the night to cool off and had a seizure while in the tub. My mother found him the next morning. I think of my brother was still alive that would have considered him to have some type of autism but they really didn't talk about that back then.

I'm sorry this is so long!

My DH is epileptic. They Dr believes it is from frequent server fevers when he was a child, some type of fever disorder. He has grand Mal, he screams, his entire body convulses violently, his arms and legs draw up tightly, his incredibly strong during and immediately after (until his adrenaline stops), he says he doesn't know who, where or even what he is immediately after and sometime can become violent but it doesn't take long before he can barely even move (he may try to run at you, but he will most likely collapse on the to way to you.) he said it's like turning into a super saiyan, for anyone who may understand that like we do.

He refused to take his meds at first, he didn't believe it did anything. Then the Dr told you if you had another seizure he had a strong chance of becoming a vegetable, because he was having so many so close together. So he started to take his meds. That was almost 5 years ago and he hasn't had a seizure since.

When we had our son we were terrified he would have them also. I could be wrong but the Dr said he thinks because Kane's are caused by the fevers when he was a baby, and because he has 2 other kids from when he was 17/18 (he is 30 now) that do not have any type of seizures, we do not need to worry about it. I'm really not sure that it is hereditary? Maybe just his type isn't?

My older sister also had seizures. She was profoundly brain damaged from an "accident" during a surgery. But that is an even longer story... I guess if anyone reads this far and wants to know more, than I will tell... Again, I'm sorry this was long...

My parents did sue. She had her tonsils taken out & the dr told my mom if she coughed up anything red she should take her straight to the er then the dr went out of town. A few day later my sis coughed up something that looked like raw liver the later turned out to be tried blood or something like that, so my mom rushed my sis to the er. They rushed her into emergency surgery. Now I don't know everything thing that happen because I was only about 6mo old. But there is a shot they give you before surgery that they didn't write down when they gave her so they gave her enough for a grown man & she was only 4.5 year ms old, they also put the breathing tube into her stomach not her lungs so she was without air for a while. There were a few other thing buts I don't know really.
They said she wouldn't live through the night & if she did she would be a vegetable. She lived & while she could walk or talk she could communicate. It was as best of a life as we could give her. She died in 2006, she was 27.
I don't know what her siezure were called. We called them laughing siezures. Because, well, because she sounded like she was laughing, kinda. She had them several times a day.
