I called in this morning so I can go visit with family since my grandmother passed yesterday and my boss says, "I'm so sorry about your grandma but we are really short handed and I need you to come in if at all possible"... WTF.. What do I do?

Although its really tough, you shoul go to work, they can fire you for calling in.
FMLA only covers immediate family members, too.
