5 Annoying Things Parents of School-Aged Kids Do

Posted by Kristen Chase on February 18, 2013

Annoying things parents doWhen my kids were little, they were with me most of the time, so for the most part, I didn't have to deal with the choices of other parents.  Hey, I'm not perfect, but I would like to think I'm pretty considerate of others. Well, most of the time, anyway.

But now that they're all in school, it's like a constant barrage of inconsiderate behavior. Oh the annoying things parents do!

If you've got school-aged kids like me, then my guess is that you've had to deal with this as well. And while I do my best to grin and bear it, I'd really love to give these parents a piece of my mind.

  1. Send sick kids to school. Yes, I know parents work (I do!), and I know that it's hard to figure out care for them if you can't take off, but seriously, if your kid has a fever or uh, HEAD LICE, you're putting other kids at risk. Keep them home!
  2. Don't follow the classroom rules. When a memo is sent that no candy is allowed for school celebrations, like Valentine's Day for example, please follow that rule. Why not feed your own kid all the Fun Dip that you sent in? Or better, I'll send my kids to your house after they've eaten it all.
  3. Let them wear costumes. Do you realize how hard I have to try to get my kids to not wear ridiculous things to school? It's a daily battle. So when you let your kid wear a Spiderman outfit to class, I get to hear all about it for weeks and weeks.
  4. Let little girls wear high heels. Call me a "fuddy-duddy" but shoes with more than an inch heel on girls that are under 10 seems to be a poor decision, not just because really? do little girls need to wear shoes like that? but it's also not safe. Please stick to the good-old Mary Janes or sneakers!
  5. Pack crazy lunches. Whether it's piles of candy or those ridiculous bento-style lunches with fancy shaped sandwiches, enough already! Cookie cutters are for cookies; not strawberries cut in pretty shapes. I'm tired of hearing how boring my sandwiches and baby carrots are.

Number 1 I get sooo pissed off when a parent sends their kid to school sick. My son had caught the whooping cough at the age of 4. He then came home and his sister caught it at the age of 2 months old!!! They both were in isolation at childrens hospital for it. Thank God they both survived.

The main thing that frustrates me is inconsistent parenting... My kid observes his little friends, even being as small as he is. And when his mommy says no, it means no. But when other mommies say no, one in particular, it means no for a minute or two, and then she kinda gives in, and then eventually that no becomes a "well only if you..." ... And then I struggle with a kid who starts to throw tantrums because it had worked with his friend :P

Anyway... I have to admit I'd be the mom doing dinosaur cut-out sandwiches... And if my kid wanted to wear a costume... Sorry. :/ I don't really mind that much unless it's picture day or something lol

The rest would bother me if my kid were old enough to go to school, but it DOES drive me nuts when parents send their sick kids to daycare :( bash away... I know parents need to make money, but when your kid can't get off the floor cause he's so sick, sick days need to happen...

I know I always have said that and the dumb ones who dont have socks on their babies or sometimes even pants when its cold outside!!! Like bc they are a baby they wont be cold if your holding them, right?....really dumbass??!!

Something that really just gets to me is when parents are out on a cold day and their child has nothing but a long sleeve shirt and no jacket or even a beany on their head. And the parent is walking around all comfy in the HUGE a$$ coat wondering why their child has a runny nose. Duh you idiot they are cold too!!! I wish I could just leave them out there in the cold with no clothes on and see how a child feel!! They are tiny and depend on US!!!!! I perfer to walk around in a short sleeve and give my OWN coat to my child then leave them without one!!!

With my 3yo dd I take her to the sitter in just long sleeves, and the grocery store.  But she is in a big carseat still and it takes longer to get her coat on and off when we get to and leave the car than to just wrap her in my jacket with me and take her in!

I have a two year old and I always struggle to get him in because I am always adjusting his straps on his carseat. But I always do it every single time I go out no matter if its even across the street I prefer my child be comfy and warm. My child knows the process at the door you take your coat off and shoes off, he learned to hang his coat and learn to know leave the house without it on cold days.

My sil and mil do the same damn thing to my kids with my nephew. Like my nephew is a perfect angel, but when my kids copy him, they are spawns of satan. We don't talk to them anymore.

Quoting midjet117:

none of thoes bother me. What bothers me is when my 4 yr old niece is acting up and her parents dont do anything, but the minute my kids are mean, my sil feels the need to punish her kids by making them sit out. what can I say, the chick, her husband and 4 yr old completely annoy me.

My biggest one is like what my sons father and step son mother do. They never come to see their kids. But they go around town complaining about how they miss them then accuse us of keeping them from them. Never buy anything the kids need (which is fine, we got it covered), don't call to see how they are doing, nothing. But me and my husband are the horrible parents.

  1.  not keep an eye on their children
  2. feed their children crap
  3. ignore their children
  4. speak bad about their children
  5. saw a man the other day push his kid at the store and said "see that what happens when you talk and walk at the same time. shut your mouth and move" that pissed me off
