Is it against the law...

To put a letter in someone else's mailbox? Like say you want to get an invitation to your neighbor and just stick it in their mailbox... is it against the law?
My mom says it is but I've never heard of it being a law.

Not that I know of.  The mail person may get confused why there is a letter w/o a stamp.  I would just tape it to their door instead.

Yes it is. It's actually a federal offense from my understanding. Unless you are the owner of the mailbox (or designee) or a postal employee you are considered to be tampering. Chances are you would never get in trouble for it, but yes it is technically illegal.

I'm not sure, but I've always done it.

Like with neighbors and whatnot. :)

Hmm, Idk. We have mail slots in my neighborhood, and people put fliers through them all the time. If it's illegal to put something in another person's mailbox, then that certainly should be illegal!

Dont look like a freak doing it and you'll be fine or do it on Sunday when NO mail will be in the box to tamper with.
