I feel like the worst mother in the world...one of my friends told me that her 2 yr old dd's dentist said binkys cant form crooked teeth but im thinking other wise. So its going TONIGHT!  Thumb sucking can alter where teeth are, roof of your mouth, and your jaw itself. My brother and myself sucked our thumb even into school age because it soothed us. (rough child hood). But that led to expanders (fix the roof of the mouth) and braces My son was weaning off the paci when he had a seizure and the paci was his soothing device and just one day he kicked the "habbit" he was 3. Hes almost 5 now only reason he bas teeth issues is because of bad genetics in teeth from his dad but we handle it as it comes. Hopefully his adult teeth will be fine. DD still only has 2 teeth so only time will tell.

Pacis have been proven to help prevent sids. They are better to use than thumbs since they can be taken away. They have different brands too, i was told the hospital types are good for premies but not great in the long run. They make NUK, and MAM and a few others that are approved by orthodonic's. And crooked teeth are not the end of the world. I had crooked baby teeth from thumb sucking but my adult teeth came in straight. I had to have braces because of a severe over bite and the expander to fix the roof if my mouth shifted my teeth.

That puts my mind at ease. But dh and i and our other children all have straight teeth...maybe a family member down the line some where though

My DS had a paci until he was 2 (nap/bed only after 2) and his teeth are straight. He had an ortho approved mam paci. My dd is 1 and uses the same brand. Their dentist is a pediatric specialist and said pacis don't cause crooked teeth, baby teeth break in how they are able to and the other is genetics.

It can cause crooked teeth, a high palate, and numerous other issues. On the other hand, not yet 2 is not late at all, so don't stress that. His teeth will still move in his mouth. My dd didn't take a bink, but always wanted her bottle (only with water at night). When I pulled that her favorite blanket was my saving grace

I wouldn't do it all at once. I would take it slow. Get him a few new toys, ya know cheap ones, but don't give them to him yet. Talk about a binky fairy, like the tooth fairy. Build it up for a week or two, then have him decide to get rid of the binkies. Make it like a right of passage or something. Then on a day that you talk about all the time, help him gather up all his binkies, and put them in a bag. Then help him to sit that bag right outside the door, right before he goes to bed. Then exchange the bag of binkies for that bag of small toys you got him.  So, that the next morning it's like the binkie fairy came.

^just an idea.
