New insurance laws...

So facebook and my family has me all confused...

With Obamacare in place, can anyone explain to me what is happening ?(Im a little ignorant when it comes to all this stuff.)

Ive been told if I dont have insurance I'll have to pay a large amount of money at the end of the year?

Does anyone know exactly what it is and can dumb it down for me?

Thanks!

I'm not sure that I totally understand it myself, but what I got from it is that the "marketplace" for insurance is open as of October 1st and will stay open until March 2014 for you to get insurance through the Obamacare. If you do not get insurance, yes there will be penalties to pay come tax time. I think the first year the penalties are not as high as following years though. AND this only affects those who do not have insurance already. If you have insurance through an employer or medicaid, you don't need to get it through obamacare too.

Your penalty tax would be based on your income.
