first birthday party

So I'm trying to plan my son's first birthday and we've decided that we don't want to have a huge party. In the past year 2 years I've had a graduation party, a wedding shower, a wedding and a baby shower and I'm sure that all of my relatives are just as sick of me as I am them. But every time I sit down to make my small guest list, there ends up being so many people added because I just can't invite some people without inviting others. Plus, my parents are divorced and my husband's parents are divorced and there's all of this turmoil and arguments going on, I'm just starting to go crazy.

I don't know what to do!!!! I'm sure there's not much advice anyone can give me, but if there is just one person out there who has ever been in a situation like mine, please reply!

My family is the same. Parents divorced and at wits end with each other so....for my son's first bday i said I was throwing one party that i was paying for and i invited all my mom's side of the family and then i told my dad's family i would buy another cake but that was it and so they said oh well we want to give him his own party anyway and they bought all the decorations and cake and everything. Plus he got some killer gifts because both families wanted to outdo each other lol. My mom thought it was wrong to do two separate parties but really i only did one that i paid for. Besides your child is the one who benefits out of it really regardless of who gives or pays for what. good luck hope it all works for you

I just through my daughter her 1st birthday party. She had clowns, DJ's, and Bounce house and Ponies. That was probably the only day she wasn't so clingy to me I was kind of chocked. But what's a party without family turmoil right? We'll it was a big mis-understanding with the DJ's and The table and chairs rentals, all because One side wanted to out do the otherside. So at the end of the day the party was a success but my sister cussed out my in-laws to the tee but it was worth it because my daughter is like the little girl she always wanted.
