My community is actually offering an "Alternatives to spanking" class!!! I am going to take it, just to see what they have to say... here is the description...
*Alternatives to Spanking will address
-Why parents spank their children
-Alternatives to spanking
-Verbal and Physical redirection
-Ignoring inappropriate behavior
I hope there is a big turnout, because, the less spanker's, the better!

they should offer that in alot more places, but the sad thing is alot of parents spank because it is the quick and easy solution to the problem (at least they see it that way) to me I see it as a lazy parents way.

I agree with this. it takes more effort to redirect a child than to simply spank.
