Suggestions on attaching teacups/wine bottles to wreath

I found a few pics on swags and wreaths with teacups, saucers and teapots on them! I would love to make some but concerned with them being too heavy. I was thinking of wiring with some thin gauge wire, hot glue never really stays. Any suggestions?
