I will check back and answer your questions as best i can or refer you to a website that can answer your questions. willing to help anyone figure out how to play the CVS game.

BASIC INFORMATION FOR THE NEWBIE

WHAT IS CVS? cvs is a pharmacy/store that offers great sales and discounts with thier Extra Care Card programme. You can earn Extra Care Bucks on certain purchases weekly and monthly. These are like cash in the store and you can not only combine coupons but also use these ECBs to purchase other items that give ECBs. a savvy shopper can "roll" over thier ECBs weekly spending almost nothing out of pocket for a lot of great stuff like toothepaste, toothbrushes, skin care adn much much more!!

DOES CVS TAKE COUPONS?

Yes actually they do. They take thier own, internet, and sunday insert coupons. but each store is slightly different. and every manager can limit the number of coupons you use per transaction. typically the register beeps after 8 and needs a manager overide to use any more coupons. You will need to check with your stores policies before hand so as to avoid embarrassment.

CVS CUSTOMER CARE LINE

For issues regarding CVS/pharmacy stores, ExtraCare® or other store programs, call (800) SHOP-CVS (746-7287), Monday through Friday, 8:30am-8:00 pm ET.

WHAT ABOUT BOGO SALES AND I HAVE A BOGO COUPON?

there are two ways this can work. ONE is that you will be allowed ONE free item with the store sale and ONE free item with the coupon. BUT if you are lucky your store will let you get 4, yes 4 items for that coupon and sale. here is the reasoning. you get one free on the sale. then using the coupon you get another free one well the FREE one is as if you had a free coupon which means its another sale so you get one more free one from the store sale. general company policy is the 3 items with BOGO sale with BOGO coupon so dont expect the BOOYA from YOUR store. but you might get it. i would suggest ringing in 4 and having the cashier total it so that the 2 come up free then apply the BOGO coupon. should work

HOW MUCH DOES THIS COST TO GET STARTED?

well it varies per person. but most people report starting it up with about 15-20$. not a bad investment.

WHAT IS THIS SPRING SPENDING,SUMMER SPENDING I HEAR ABOUT?

each quarter they total how much you have spent for that quarter and then you get 2% as an ECB which you can either print off the internet if you enter your card online or it will come at the end of a register reciept like a normal ECB but it will say which quarter it is from.

MY ECBS ARE EXPIRED NOW WHAT?

a manager MIGHT honor them, might not. they are not honor bound to take them. try and have a good relationship with your local CVS store. you are more likely to have few problems if you do. i swear, i bring my gals donuts once a month. no kidding!! LOL they love me

WHERE CAN I LEARN MORE?

www.hotcouponworld.com is an excellent source of information on general company policy, what to do, how to do it. they have a newbie FAQ on CVSing and lots more information than i could ever post here. you will have to register and join to see some stuff like the worksheets on suggested scenarios with tthe sales. but its free to join and fun to particpate. people share a ton of ideas there on how to save. and the site covers MOST major stores and grocery stores! for CVS just go to the main page, scroll down to drug stores, click and click on CVS. you are there!

http://www.iheartcvs.com/ is another excellent information source, but i caution you on using the coupons in the print section of the site.

CAN I HAVE MORE THAN ONE CARD?

you? no. but you can have a card in every family members name if you want to. even on the CVS website when you go to look at your account it will ask if you wish to check another card. and guest relations will tell you that though many offers say limit per household they really mean limit per card. but it is again up to your store manager to accept or not accept multiple card uses in the same day. also, there is courtesy in this that is expected that you will NOT wipe out a good sale by doing the max on every single card you have. always remember there is someone else coming for that sale item and leave some behind for them. short ofyou getting there and there only being enough for one deal anyways.  i spread my cards out during the week. saving some stuff till the last day of the sale so everyone has had a chance to get that sale before i wipe the store out.

my happiness is me not you, not only becuase you may be temporary, but because you want me to be what i am not.................michelle(leo buscalia book)

I want to play, but I can't figure out how you guys get such GREAT deals!  I went to CVS last night and spent $80, I bought a package of razors for $10.99 (4-pack blades) and the little sign said that I would get a deodorant free.  Well when I got to the register the lady acted like she didn't know what I was talking about (maybe only 'certain brands of schick?", so anyway I didn't get the deodorant.

I am amazed at the posts and pictures of all the stuff you guys get.

PLEASE let me know what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks!

you dont have to buy something hon if they refuse you the deal. you do need to make double certain that what you are buying fits the details of the deal. it might be she also did not KNOW how it worked. you can always ask her to come see the deal and explain if you did it wrong. what you want to do is look at your sale flyer. you can see it on sunday or at hotcouponworld.com in advance. regions have different sales so sometimes something is missing from mine say that is on sale elsewhere. but usually the main items are on the same sale everywhere. i plan it out in advance matching coupons with sales that get me ECBs that i can use on other ECB sales with coupons to maximize my $!! take a look at hotcouponworld.com scroll down to drug stores and click on CVS and look at 7/20 sales flyer and then let me know if you have questions about getting started. it costs about $20 to get this ball rolling but it works once you are. i will try to post my worksheets on here a few days before the new sale starts each week but i cannot promise it.

Thank You So Much for your reply.  Do you know how I can tell which items have the most ECB points?

you can look at your weekly sales flyer on sunday or be savvy and go to hotcouponworld.com and scroll down to drug stores and then to CVS. they have the future sales flyers(some sales vary from region to region so be prepared to change your plan on sunday morning)and a great FAQ sectionn for newbies.

to really really succeed in CVSing you NEED a sunday paper. either a subscription or ask a family member for thier coupon inserts. you can also do something i do, which is go through brown recycling bags 5:30 in the morning on recycling trash day for your area. that is how i get my extras.

the flyer will tell you how many ECB you get, if its FREE after ECB and usually the cost after ECB. they make it very nice and simple. a few sales like this week dont tell you the cost of the product for the ECB like the benefiber. that was buy $20 worth and get 10 in ECBs well i had enough coupons for FREE ones to get the benefiber and be paid to do it.

there is only one cvs in my town and i never shopped there until i saw one of your posts on deals and steals...well i decided to give it a try,but when i went there to look for the ad with all the deals of the month i was told by the manager that they weren't allowed to give them out, this by order of the district manager.
i also was told that we are not allowed to use bogo coupons on bogo sales...according to the manager i would be stealing from them if they allowed me to do this.Do you have this kind of problems with your stores?

my suggestion is call guest relations and explain the issue. thier company guideline is to accept BOGO on a BOGO sale. and depending on the manager you get either 3 or 4 for the sale. they are not being robbed they get their money back from CVS as one sale is the BOGO of the company and then from the company that put out the BOGO coupon plus 8 cents restituation. so this manager is not well informed on coupons. some maangers are not. stores do not have to put out a monthly sales flyer. sometimes the sales are not in the computer right and that is why not all stores put out the flyer. but you can find the sales for the month at www.hotcouponworld.com under drug stores then under CVS.
