The biggest thing you need to do is get a binder, get a copy of the coupon policies - you need to have it with you or you can't argue with a cashier (and point to their policy) you don't have it ultimately you will lose the arguement. Stay organized. Look in your area on the web for couponing blogs that have coupon match ups each week. Websites like Krazy Coupon Lady do a pretty good job but aren't local.
These things will be the biggest help.
I use a file box instead of a binder less to spend on it (a sheet for coupons is a bit to much $ for frugal me) and easier to me to find coupons.
Go to your grocery stores site and you can find out the policy, sale ad etc. Best if you plan out your meals/buys by what's on sale and then locate coupons via newspaper on Sunday, online (check to make sure your store accepts them as I found mine doesn't) and go to websites of products you use a LOT and see if you can acquire coupons from them.
Each store will have it's own policies so it's best to get a copy for every store where you shop. You should be able to get it online. Check periodically, as they may change policies without notice. Print them out and put them in the pockets of the 3-ring binder (below).
I use a 3-ring binder for coupons. I buy 4x6 photo sheets at Walmart (I think a pack of them are around $2. You will need probably 5 packs to get started) to put in the binder, then I place a 4x6 blank index card in each pocket of the sheets. Then when you place coupons in the front or the back of the sheet, you can't see the coupon thru the sheet. It makes it easier to see the coupon without seeing the one behind it. Make sure you put your name and phone number on it, in case you lose it, you would want to get it back.
I used to use a file, but for me, it was hard to find the right coupon and to see what you have on hand.
By the way, some stores allow expired coupons for a period of time. Check with your store. One of mine takes them up to 3 months past the date! Also remember you can use a store coupon with a manufacture's coupon for more savings!
