My daughter is in the 4th grade and dyscalculia and has what we call "butterfly effect" where she can't focus. We had her assessed in the 3rd grade and has LD with dyscalculia. They suggested medication but are trying without. She is in IEP at school and tried everything. Tutors, Math video games, singing math, praise and punishment. She just shuts down, cries and yells. She won't let us show her how to do the problem correctly. She wants to do by herself but does the whole page wrong and then we have to do it all over again where we have tears and raised voices for 2 hours. Very frustrating for both of us. We are discussing medication but my husband is adamant about not medicating her. Does anyone have any suggestion or advice or experience with medication. I'm at my wits end.
