  • Ok couple of months ago I vented in another group about roommate that when they were moving out they threw away 3 bags of useful things that can either be passed on freecycle or donated at a thrift store. Well there was a sweater the guy wore all the time or at least it seemed like it and his girl friend is missing him so much with him on deployment so as a surprise I made her a purse with it......Now mind you I'm not the best sewer... the most I've done was make a pillow and I sew Navy patches on uniforms but it turned out great...It's a little plan but the girl I made it for is going to add patches and buttons and stuff on it. She was so excited about it. I was so impress by it I'm making a purse for myself as well with an old navy uniform of my hubby, LOL.

  • Well if you look closely at the bottom pic the inner lining seam doesn't match the outer fabric seam, LOL. And her cell phone pocket inside the purse stitching is not as straight as it could be...But hey for a beginner sewer and a few bad words thrown to the sewing machine for thread mishaps not to bad for basic purse.

  • I took some cues from other crafty ladies online and ended up with these ideas -

I have many pieces of ribbon that end up less than a yard - but still very useable.  I wound them around my leftover cardboard paper towel tubes and pinned them to secure:

I also have vintage looking trims and embellishments that I wanted to separate and not have floating around in a shoe box.  I bought this very old jewelry box from a very old woman at a garage sale for $1.  It has really worked out nicely to house my pretty odds and ends:

Here it is all filled up....

    Happy recycling!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Oh...good idea.  My ribbon is thrown into a gallon ziploc bag.  LOL  I'm always looking for ways to keep those rolls b/c they seem like a waste.  I usually end up winding my Christmas lights around them.

  • well, i can get my wallet, keys, a pack of gum, change, a cell phone in it and still have room.

there one main pocket and the 2 side ones.

if you have pants with bigger pockets you could probably get more in

  • My sister (whos 16) has been visiting me all week and I've been teaching her the greener way of life. One day she mentioned that Mom doesn't use reusable bag (cos I do) and has a HUGE collection of "trash" bags collecting. With that in mind I decided to teach her the use and make of "Plarn"....here was our project...making braclets.

Now she can reduce moms "trash"bag collection and maybe this can make a huge hit for her to make for her high school friends for gifts.
