Anyone use the insertion device for their Insulin Pump??  Does it make insertion easier or less painful and does it justify the cost of the device??

Any info will be helpful..

Thanks.........Renae

I use an Animas infusion set....it works with other pump supplies so you don't 'have' to be on an Animas pump....it's called an Inset and it's all inclusive.....

In the past, I used a handle type thing that was reusable.....so I would insert an infusion set into this little handle thingy each time and it would pop it in for me....but the Inset...has it all built into the complete set....make sense??  I've used that infusion set for YEARS and love, love, love it!

You can see it at www.animascorp.com and look under products. There is even a little box on the right that says you can try two for free!

I have a Medtronic pump and the needle/cathedar you manually insert unless you purchase the insertion device. Its not all inclusive.  Im thinking the insertion device might be worth it.  Will the Animas infusion set work with the Medtronic pump??

I'm not positive...I know years ago....(like 8!) I had a Medtronic pump...back then they were called MiniMed and their reservoirs were interchangeable with others infusion sets.....but I have no idea now. You can call the toll-free number at Animas and ask of they are compatible.

For me, if there were no insertion device, I would have a breakdown every time I changed sites! I totally rely on that little contraption.....I've been Diabetic for about 20 years and STILL have an issue with poking myself! : )

I made an appt with a pump instructor for Wed, I asked her about the insertion device and she said  and I quote "its not hard to put in as long as you dont hesitate, they will wrinkle under the skin if you hesitate, you just have to do it fast".. she talked about it like it was nothing. and I thought hmm spoken like a true NON pump user.. I think I might just go ahead and get the insertion device.. Although Im pretty use to shots and finger pokes I dont know if I could ever get use to what this is going to require.. Im actually pretty nervous and kinda scared about the whole idea of it.. Thank you so much for your replies..

I don't have an insertor but am going to get one soon.  I freak out a lot when I change sites and taking shots after 37 years.   I'm glad to know I'm not alone and I'm glad this was posted because  a lot of my questions have been answered.   I still don't understand the difference between the Animas inserter and the Mini Med.   It's hard to really see it all on the web site.  I'm taking a class in Dec.

Quoting JanieR:.   I still don't understand the difference between the Animas inserter and the Mini Med.

Imagine the differences like this.....

One, is a one time use (Animas) and the other is a re-useable device. The Animas Quick Set is an all in one insertion device AND infusion set....the small plastic circle IS the insertion device AND it holds the tubing and introducer needle. Some of the other insertion devices you have to 'load' each time you change your site. You place the needle, attached to the tubing into the insertion device each time.....and re-use that same insertion device each time. The Quick Set from Animas you throw away after each use.

It's painless, quick and I don't even have to see what is happening! : )  It's the visual of sticking myself that gets me each time...so the insertion devices are wonderful to overcome that anxiety with!

Ok it's a lot clearer to me now because I did watch the demos.   Mine is old and the updated versions will take getting used to.   I can't wait to have an inserter.

I wonder if you need a prescription for it.. I would like to have it when I goto my appt so the trainer can show me how to use it while Im there.. Im so scared about the pump anyway and inserting that needle and catheter is making it worse..
