My Sister's Story (posted in other groups as well)

I am sitting here, watching the Oprah show, about "Paying It Forward!", where she gave the audience members $1000, and video cameras to document their "Paying It Forward!" adventure. and every story makes me cry. There are some GENEROUS people out there, and I'm so glad to be a part of this group where every day, women are helping women.

That is why I am writing this. I am a young, married, mom of one. My older sister is 27 years old, widowed, and mom to four. We currently live 550 miles away (she is in Iowa, I am in Ohio). Her four children are my four children, and I try to help as much as I possible can.

This school year, and for the past 3 school years, my husband and I have purchased as many school supplies as we could, and shipped them out to her. We also try to purchase them Christmas and birthday presents, as many as we can without going into debt. It's tough, but these kids deserve every cent.

My sister first got pregnant when she was 16, and married Edward. He is the father to all four children...Christian, Damien, Cassandra, Edward Junior. They worked hard to support their family, and to make it in this world. In 2004, Edward suffered a brain aneurysm, and was immediately hospitalized. During his hospital stay, he suffered a stroke. He was to remain in the hospital, and various nursing homes, until he passed away in 2005. My sister, during this time, had to support herself, and four beautiful children, and somehow manage to make it to the hospital (with no car) to see her husband.

I can very vividly remember our conversations, progress reports on Edward, and her tears when things weren't going so well.

This is not all. On Ocotober 22, 2004, out mother, Joanne, passed away from brain/lung/eye cancer. She had been diagnosed in June 2004.  My sister's father (not mine) passed away when she was young. I do not know the date, but it was right before I was born (in 1987).

My sister has been through it all, and to this day, is still holding strong. She has her good days, her bad days, and days where she has no idea what will happen next.

I love my sister, and I would do anything for her. That is why I am here....

Her children (ranging in age from 5 to 10, 3 boys and 1 girl) need clothes and shoes. My sister is currently unemployed, and depending on Social Security benefits to provide for her family. Any monetary donation will go directly to her so she can purchase food, toiletries, and help pay utilities. Clothing sizes range from 5-6 (boys), 7-8 girls, and 8-10 boys.

I am not asking for much, just whatever you have lying around. Every little bit will make a huge difference.

My part is to get the word out, and to accept all donations and ship them to her. I will be using my digital camera to document the journey, just like the audience members of the Oprah, "Pay It Forward!" show.

I wanted to include some pictures with this story:

This is Edward, before he passed away. He was in the hospital, and attending physical therapy daily.

This is a family photo, taken before Edward's intitial hospitalization. The children are much older now, and I would prefer the use of an older photo, for their safety.     :-)
