OK, I have a question, hoping someone has some experience/opinions: History. I have a 6 1/2 yr old, and we started the Veritas Press history cards this year, so have been studying Genesis and Ancient Egypt. I thought it made sense to start with the beginning of the world! Well the further we get it is getting a little over her head, and then I learned the local Christian school does Abeka social studies in first grade, which does basic America stuff, good citizenship, and intro to maps and the world. This is making more sense to me to start with, so I'm thinking (and I am not a huge a beka fan) of switching to that for after Christmas and then starting again next year at the beginning of the world. Any opinions on doing this change? What do you all do for history/social studies?

Well, when I use anything at all with 9, 7 and 5 yos. I use Konos. I think retention is more important than keeping things in chronological order and when my kids do hands on stuff they retain it SO much better. However, I don't always do all that much with my 7 and 5 yos because they are SO young. So don't be afraid not to do that stuff in such a structured manner.
