So, I was reading in my People Mag. just a minute ago, and something just made me sick. One of the guys from Bon Jovi (Richie something-or-another) was arrested for DUI. They are saying that he could be charged with endangering a child also. Someone who is close to him say he wasn't endangering his child, even though he was driving while intoxicated with her in the car. This to me, is discusting.... How can someone say that someone driving while under the infulance with a child in the care is not endangering that child? Another thing that makes me sick, on the base I live near, there have been 9 DUI's so far this year! These men and woman are supposed to making America a safer place to live, but I really don't see how that is when they are driving under the infulance. To me, as someone who has lost a sister along with many friends due to people driving under the influance, that is just as bad as being a terrorist. I'm going on the 14th to speak about this to the people on Base.... I hope I can make a differance and open their eyes. I hope I can make them realize that they are not super man/women. I hope I can get them to see that driving under the influance doesn't only effect them, but it can effect an entire network of people. I wish people everywhere would open their eyes to this. It makes me so sad/mad to hear about this, from anyone...........

I completely agree with you and I hope that your speech goes well.  I also lost a sister and she was in Air Force when she was killed.  The Air Force did a safety video and used my family in it to try and get people's attention to the issue.  I also agree with you on how many soldiers I've noticed that are getting into trouble for DUI.  Around here, it's about 3/ weekend.  Very sad. 
I don't understand why the media makes such a big deal out of the celebrities getting a few hours in jail for DUI when there are thousands of people each year effected by someone doing that same thing and never makes the headlines like that.
Please let me know how your speech goes.

On New Years Day in Fresno, CA 16 drunk drivers were arrested as the result of sobriety checkpoints set up by the Fresno Police Department. A new law has been put in place that requires bar owners to maintain the area within 100 feet of their bars, which means no allowing drunks to make messes or gather outside. Also, liquor store owners are not allowed to sell alcohol to habitual drunkards.

These types of things really make me mad. What is wrong with people?

I applaude your decision to speak on base honey.  If you can prevent even ONE person from dying then any amount of time and effort is worth it.  I have lost many in my life to this disgusting evil too and I am planning now to do what I can do to prevent people from dying.  I have lots of children and grandchildren (lot my 17 year old Grandson two years ago in Feb to this) and I do not want to lost any of them or to me, even worse, ever have THEM be the reason for someone else losing their lives.  I harp on them all the time, they are mostly in their twenties and I know they go out sometimes.  Nothing wrong with that as long as there is a designated driver.  Why can't people get that.  You CAN go out and have fun once in a while but, YOU CAN do it responsibly.  What is so hard to understand!!  I am now 56 and I became a widow also just three weeks before my Grandson died (not to alcahol).  Lately, I have been realizing that we should all find a cuse and give some of our time so I am going to check out MADD and see if I can volunteer or get involved.  Just remember, even if you can spare one life and one family the pain, it is SO worth it.  God Bless.
