My son Eric born August 26, 2007 has moderate bi-lateral neuro-sensori hearing loss. Initially I was devasted and shocked wondering what might have happened to cause this disability in my baby. We decided to go ahead with genetic testing and learned that both me and dad carried the recessive gene for hearing loss and passed this on to Eric. We have since gained a small support system and Eric got his hearing aids at 10 weeks. Our goal is for Eric to speak and not sign, and when he is kindegarten to be with other normal kids in a regular classroom. I am working with him through reading, learning toys and staying strong to help him as much as possible. Eric will also be receiving speech therapy soon as an early intervention.
