Justin was born June 15 and like the some of the other posters, born w/ mild to moderate bilateral hearing loss, which was discovered in hospitial. We have recently completed the non-sedated ABR. We hope to have him fitted for hearing aides ASAP. I am dealing with insurance reg and state red-tape. I am overwhelmed by EVERYTHING!!!!
I do not plan on signing to him. We are starting with a speech pathologist at 7 months. He is the youngest (and my last) of 3 boys.
Thank you for starting this group!! Michelle

Welcome to the group!
Just curious, why aren't you planning to sign? It is just interesting to me that signing is very popular with parents with hearing kids, but parents of kids with hearing loss are often told not to sign with their kids. We found that it was very helpful for us to get language into our daughter, especially when she had a ton of ear infections in a row which made her hearing temporarily even worse. Now at age four she is totally not interested in signing and would rather have us talk in her ear when her hearing aids are out.
Great that you will be starting with a speech therapist soon. It sounds like you at least have a early intervention office that has a little bit of a clue. Ours wanted to close our case when our daughter was four months old instead of giving us any services.
