How do I count the kicks and for how long?
My doctor told me not to bother. You will know your baby's active periods by around 28 weeks. You should get 10 movements in 2 hours during their active period. My doctor told me if I noticed a change in my baby's normal pattern to lie down for an hour and do counts then. I should get 4-5 in an hour. If I didn't or noticed a significant change in his movement, I should come in and be monitored. I did kick counts with my first and almost drove myself crazy with worry. Babies in the womb sleep just like newborns do so you won't necessarily feel movement every 2 hours or get 10 in 2 hours. Babies also can have off days where they don't move as much.
