DD is going to play soccer. This is her first year playing. She is 6. This is also my first time being in a sport. I never played sports when I was younger. I also am not a huge sports fan. Don't know a wold lot about soccer. Next Thursday is our parent/coach meeting. The Saturday after that is the first practice. We have everything except her cleats. If your children have been in soccer what is it like? Do you like it? Any tips for a first timer? I am not sure how well dd will do. She is a girly girl. She has wanted to play for a long time now. I may put DS in it next year.
Soccer is an awesome sport! My daughter started playing when she was 4. The first year or so they run around together and learn how to be a team. They are so cute. My daughter caught on pretty quickly as well as some of her teammates, but we also had some flower pickers and butterfly chasers!
Soccer teaches them to be a part of a team, coordination, how to listen and follow direction as well as keeping them physically fit. Soccer is fast becoming a major sport here in America. Many of her classmates will be playing.
The only advice I have is get on well with the parents, help her to feel a part of the team by attending all practices and games and be encouraging and positive. You want the kids to have fun without the pressure to win all the time or be the best.
My daughter will be 15 next month and is still playing soccer as well as other sports. It is something that they can play well into adulthood to keep in shape. Enjoy!!
I had to laugh at this. I can picture my dd doing that. HAHA

My son started soccer around your child's age.We had never saw soccer before, but he saw kids at ymca playing. The first year kids get distracted by planes, butterflies, and flowers. We learned how to pick good shin guards, soccer socks and cleats. My son is 11 years old now. He loves soccer. He plays on a traveling team. We learned allot. He loves to run. He loves the sport like some kids love football. He can name players from professional teams and world cups teams both men and women. I learned to have plenty of snacks, water, lawn chair, and book to read. You will want to have soccer ball to practice with at home. I would learn basic terms about soccer and help your daughter with them.
