I am a stay at home mom and my 5 year old daughter is so bored with me.  She has no friends to play with.  I try to get her out of the house by taking her to the park and to the pool but she is really isn't meeting any friends.  I would love for her to have "play dates" or something like that but its so much harder then I thought it would be for her to make friends.  She starts kindergarten in september and I know she will make some new friends then but for the summer she is so down in the dumps.

anyone have any advice?  please help!!!!

I'm not sure if you and your family attends church...but that may be a great place to meet other local moms and kids.  Our church...in Lewes...offers a contemporary service and we have TONS of young families and kids. Vacation bible school might also be an option and that usually only lasts for a week but again kids her age and they are all local to you.  Hope this helps.

What you can do depends on where you are at I suppose.  I'm sure there are lots of places other SAHMs congregate with their kids - parks, etc.  I can't help with any personal recommendations on that tho' because I work during the day.  Perhaps nearby state parks?

My family just joined the Y and my daughter is going to camp at my kung fu school later this summer.  You could get involved in something like that.

My daughter is 5 and going to start kindergarten in the fall too.  Are you near Newark?

We go to a pool in wilmington there are alot of kids there.  it is packed with 5 year olds.  the ymca is awesome because they have lots of classes that are cheap and even free if you are a member, they have free babysitting for an hour where lots of kids are and you can work out .....  but they have tumble tots, swimming, dance and all sorts of classes.  art classes too.  and they have ones where the moms participate and that way if you can tell she likes certain children you could maybe set up a playdate.

good luck!

We swear by the Brandywine Y in my house!!  My son is two and he goes to camp a few hours two days a week...for the whole summer, it was less then $400 and he gets to play a lot with other kids his age.  (we haven't had any luck at the local parks either---I think I hover too much lol).

I would totally offer to meet up for a play date...I just don't know how interested your daughter would be in hanging out with a "terrible two's" boy!

Do "play dates" exsist anymore?  It seems like no one does it anymore.

Amy,

I live in newark and have 2 girls too!  my oldest is going to be 5 in september and my youngest is 2.5.  we should get together..  i am a SAHM and can usually get out of the house a couple times a week.  i also work at home so sometimes i do have to stay around the house, but not all the time.. my schedule is very flexible..

There is a National Group called MOMS Club... you can visit the website and get intouch with your local Chapter.  I just recently joined and I have met sooo many wonderful people and we go to a playgroup once a week.  I hope this helps!
