Hello, my name is Leah. I am the mother of five children. I love to read and I have always wanted to write for kids also I want to illustrate my own books. I have spent the last six years writing my first children's book. I finished it a couple of months ago and don't know what to do now. I would love advice.

Hi Leah and welcome to the group!
If you think it is ready to go to publishers, then you'll need to write a good cover letter. I think I may write a post about cover letters today as so many people want information about them, so look for that. I think I'll also write a group post to answer the what to do next question, so look for that too! It'll also the give other publsihed authors a chance to give their ideas
We'll get this question answered for you!
Best,
Marlo
Quoting stinastar:Hi Christina, thanks for joining!
Hi, I am Christina, I live in CA with my husband Mike, my 3 kiddies and my cat Splatt. I have written stories and illustrated since I was a little one. I want to know how other moms find the time and peace of mind to write. I love stories, and want to tell many but Life has tied me up!
I do it by getting up before everyone else and going to bed after everyone else. Before my daughter started pre-school I also did it when she was napping.
The first thing I do every day is make a list of my targets and have to's for the day: everything goes on there: do the laundry, go to the post office, call my mother, go to school, reading practice with my daughter, 30 minutes on my book, finish manuscript critique 'X', finish homework, stay on my diet... etc etc. The list is pretty long by the time I'm done. I use this great program on my computer called Simpleology which is fantastic.
Once I've done that and eliminated the things that aren't; really necessary, I charge! But you'll notice that I scheduled 30 minutes on my book! Goal setting and prioritising are the way that work for me!
Marlo
I'm actually going to do some post of that nature very soon, perhaps today if I get time! We'll get you going!
Marlo
