Wow.  I didn't realize how many people are in the same situation as us.  Part of us are Jewish (me and my only bio-daughter, the 16-month-old) and part of us are Christian (hubby and the 11-year-old twin daughters).  So, we celebrate both Christmas and Hanukah in our home.

We decorate for both.  The tree has both Christmas ornaments and Hanukah ornaments.  None are religious (i.e., no crosses or Jesus' or Hebrew prayers).

For Hanukah, we light the candles, say the prayers, and the Jewish members of the family get their "big" gifts while the other kids get small gifts.

For Christmas, we reverse it.  The Christian kids get their "big" gifts and the Jewish one gets smaller gifts.

Since the twins are older (and can read), they now have to follow clues to one of their gifts.  The clues lead from one to the other, all over the house.  Last year the gift they were looking for was right under the tree when they finally got to the last clue!!!  That is a lot of fun for us - especially the first year when we put the first clue into one of those puzzle boxes so they had to get the ball through the puzzle before they even knew what was going on.  One year we used words they didn't know so they'd have to look them up in the dictionary (surprisingly, the twin who reads a lot knew a bunch of the words without having to look them up - yeah for her!!!).

So, instead of wishing anyone a Happy Hanukah or Merry Christmas, I wish you all . . .

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

Same goes here. I am the product of a Jewish mother and Unitarian father. My husband is Catholic. So, we do both. We are having a Hannukah dinner Dec. 8th and then hosting Christmas dinner. I think it's great to have so many faiths and holidays.

My husband is Jewish and I enjoy Christmas but I'm not exactly Christian, well....just call me spiritual!  I guess agnostic is the word.

We celebrate both holidays with our three kids, 2 are from  my previous relationship and we have 1 together.

My husbands family were somewhat similar, his dad was Catholic and his mom Jewish.
