I have a question. At my last doctor appointment, I told my doctor I was feeling huge. And she did the usual, blood pressure, measuring and all that, and she said that I am measuring a little bit big, but that she thinks that it is just extra fluid.  She didn't seem concerned, and I'm not either, since I have heard that it is not a big deal.  I am set up for an ultrasound on Tuesday (12th) to check.  Anyways, I was just wondering, right now I am only 28 weeks and I know they wouldn't bring the baby now, but is it potentially something that they would induce me for or anything like that?

  • It would be very, very unlikely that they would induce you at 28 weeks for polyhydramnios (too much fluid).

With that said, you always have to weigh risks vs. benefits and I don't know your complete OB  history.  Assuming everything else is normal in your pregnancy, they will not induce you at this gestation.  Ask your OB what your Amniotic Fluid Index is (AFI) and ask him/her to explain it to you clearly!!

  • I had too excessive fluis with me DD.  EVERYTHING swelled! lol & when my water broke 4 weeks early it gushed and gushed for what seemed like forever!
But my Dr. wasnt concerned about my excessive fluid, since the baby was fine. (Except for a congenital Heart defect hat had NOTHING to do with excessive fluid)

  • I know they wouldn't induce at this time, I just meant at all. I have never had this in any of my pregnancies and this is my 5th, so I just was wondering.  My pregnancy is completely normal, healthy, no swelling nothing out of the ordinary.  Just I seem so darn big.

  • I had the same thing with my first pregnancy at 28 weeks....and the funny thing was, by the time I got to 35 weeks, I didn't have ENOUGH fluid...so they induced me at 39 weeks.  Either way (not enough or too mucy), they will just monitor you a little closer, but I wouldn't worry too much.  From what I have read, sometimes the fluid issue works itself out.  Good Luck!
