i cant ask my mom she is gone,  and i dont have insurance to go to the doctor,  but i have a few questions???    so i wanted to know when others stopped having periods, and if they still had them if it was normal to get them closer and closer together every month before they stop   mine were 28 days then the next month five days sooner and on and on,    it was only 20 days between this last time  and i have no warning signs like i use to.       i know i should ask a doctor,  but cant afford it right now,      just moved back home and dh cant put me on his insurance unitil the sign up month comes around.

1 mom liked this

I'm 45 and haven't started menopause yet.  But my cycle has changed since I've had my kids.  I've always assumed that any changes are due to the fact that I'm getting older and none of my 'complaints' seem really out of the ordinary.

I went thru thyroid cancer in '06 and kind of missed my regular exams for a few years.  So I made sure that I had a pap smear at my physical last month.  Lo and behold the results came back abnormal!  So I have an appointment scheduled for a coloscopy to find out what is going on.

My point in telling you this is that you really should see a doctor.  I totally understand about your insurance situation and I don't mean to scare you but unless you check it out, you can't assume anything.

I'm wondering if anyone here has a suggestion in regards to not having insurance?  I don't have an answer to that one and wonder if this is something that one of those 'free' clinics will see you for???

i already had the abnormal pap and had it frozen in 1994, then checked yearly,  i did have insurance last year and had my yearly exam,  she took me off of the pill due to my high blood pressure,          i think i can go to the free clinic,  you have to prove low income and we qualify,  i just have not had time to go yet,   i was just kinda curious if other women had this happen to them,

I was around 44 and I can remember the doctor telling me I was "peri menopausal", by the time I was 48, my periods had stopped completely, and they didn't just ease, one month I just didn't get one, and the following month I thought I would get one and never did, just stopped completely.  I have to say it is great not getting them anymore, one thing to look forward to when you get a little bit older.

I don't mean to say any of this to scare ya,just giving you some info and  hopefully yu will get checked out soon. I have been perimenopausal for about 5 years now-periods started  going the other way-usually they always go the other way where you get them LESS frequently-as in you get it ,then instead of  the next month you start skipping a month or two...............the ever 2 weeks gradually seems to  show that hormones are causing you to  store more blood on your endometrial lining of your uterus(where the period usually sheds from)-thickening of the lining can   mean some  warning sign  and bleeding that is too frequent or  lasting too long can  signal  fibroids(polyp like tumors) in the uterus. So soon as you can,get a thorough exam-don't stress, just as soon as you get the ability, schedule. Maybe this is your body's  peri-menopausal signals, but not  typical. I am an RN working in a same -day surgery unit and we see alot of women come in for  bleeding that doesn't know when to quit(like as in goes on  for 2 months without slowing),so they have D&C's.I am going to be 50 in February and I've been dealing with  peri-menopause since I was 44. Started with  night sweats  when I was due for my periods. Then at 46,I went through a pregnancy scare because I didn't get my period for almost 50 days and that was a first!  Now I have been getting a period  whenever it wants to come-sometimes  ever 3 months! Then I guess my hormones aren't strong enough to kick  it all out effectively,so it'll be  crappy for 2 days, then seem like it stopped, then I'll get it 1 1/2 weeks later but  not too heavy, ,and I'll continue to  have these messy piddle amounts of  stuff-just enough to have to wear a pantyliner-for another week. It sucks-I was told by my gyne that this can last for more than 10 years!!! I get hot flashes so wickedly that I want to rip off any clothes I've got on-at work as a nurse, this is  awkward-my patients laugh at me  all of a sudden taking a paper towel and getting it soaked with  cold water and  running it all down my arms, etc.  I hope I gave you some  info, and do not worry, just  get it checked out  soon- in the next month-if yiou can't yet, then go to your local  clinic and they can help you for free or  minimal charge.

My doctor asked me year after year if I had symptoms, and I kept saying no.  If anything, the only one was moodiness.

Anyway, I finally had two nightsweats.  Since that time, my period has been wacky.  I would skip some periods, then began getting my period more frequently for a while, now I think it is finally slowing down.  I still get them...had one this month and the flow was pretty heavy but still gone in less than a week.  I have been very fortunate so far and I count my blessings that I have had few of the symptoms that everyone else talks about.

Hello...I will be turning 41 this Friday and I have been having night sweats a couple times a week. My periods have been getting heavier. I have been having more clotting than I have ever had. I did have a PAP test about 6 months ago and everything was okay. It is nice to know that I am not alone in this. Nice to know there are people I can talk to about stuff like this.

i am going 44 years old this year. blessed to have period but not regular now. anyway, it is still a blessing because it shows that i am healthy. add 1 glass of soya milk to your weekly diet and drink more water. prayer helps a lot. avoid alcohol and smoking.

it is best if you visit your doctor once in a while.

I am so glad I am over this.  But I do know just how lucky I am.  The only hot flashes I had were mostly from stress and usually happened when I was trying to learn to distribute meds at work.  I was nervous enough to begin with about this and the hot flashes didn't make it any easier.

And I only had two night sweats as well that I remember.  Never had abnormal flowing either.  God truly blessed me.  Come to think of it, I never had morning sickness either, when I was having kids.
