My daughter is diagnosed with celiac disease.....HELP>>>>
i was just manly wanting some info on this....they are going to take a biopsy of her small intensents to prove that is what it is...then we will defenitly know..i dont know anything about this...to be honest it scares me to death.....thanks...
For me, the hard part is when eating out or eating something someone else has cooked. I've only done the latter once since April when I was diagnosed. If you cook at home, it's really not that big of a deal. You just have to reasearch every label. Most families tend to eat the same 20 dishes over and over and over. So, start with naturally gluten free foods, like veggies, fruit, meats (unseasoned), fish etc. Do that for a few weeks and then pull out your favorite recipes and find out how you can make them gluten free.
I make lots of casseroles that call for cream of X soup. Pacific makes GF ones. I also use lots of chicken broth progressive and one at Whole Foods is GF. Many GF products are out there you just have to learn to switch brands.
Also, try shopping at a whole foods or health food store for the things like cake, cookies etc that you feel deprived of. Eventually, you'll figure out how to cook them on your own. I found a GREAT pie crust at whole foods and it's even better than the pie crust I made from scratch with Gluten!!
Watch out for modified food starch! I've been burned before. It was in some cottage cheese of all things...you'd think cottage cheese was just that but nope...so you need to check EVERY label for EVERYTHING you put in your mouth!
It gets better with time, I promise!
Thanks i really appreciate it...they took her biopsy thursday so i should know something soon....hopfully...i wish i could find out before christmas so i could make sure she ate good..but then again i have already bought all the stuff so maybe after christmas will work to...lol...but i have been looking around and i found mostly junk food that is GF>>>>>so itll take itme..but i thank u very much to take the time to answer my post
Betty Crocker makes a creat cookie and cake mix, bobs red mill is good as well and our local Walmart carries some GF products. I have found Wegmans has a great selection of things s well.
Hope that helps.
