So yesterday i had a doctors appointment and my baby is measuring 7 and a half pounds already. Im only 36 weeks so my doctor decided that in 2 weeks we are going to induce. I cant wait to meet my baby but im a little worried about inducing. Has anyone else been induced? Can u share some positive stories? I just want to know what to expect. Thanx!
I was induced with my daughter. I was 41 weeks almost. I went in dilated at a 3 and they started my pitocin at around 8am. They came in and broke my water at 930am. I had my daughter at 224pm. She was 6lbs 13oz. She was perfectly healthy and everything went great. The pitocin does have a tendency to make the contractions stronger and more intense. I had an epidural when i dilated to a 4 because i emptied my bladder.... However i wish i would have waited. It wore off by the time I was at an 8. I skipped all the easier stuff and felt the most intense stuff. My daughter decided to open her arms as she was coming out, so i tore and had over 30 stitches but everything from the induction stand point was easy and i had no problems at all. Oh btw, the anesthesiologist came in as my doc was stitching things. A little too late i know! oh well, it was all worth it!!! Congrats and do what is right for you. You and your doc know whats best! :-)

I went into labor on my own at exactly 40 weeks. When I got to the hospital I was only 2 cm's dialated. Since they were worried about me having a big baby and it was my due date they went ahead and kept me. They broke my water, started pitocin, and I had an epidural. 10 hours later I had a super healthy 8lb 11oz, boy. I felt fine and everything went according to plan so I don't think there is anything too wrong with induction. Some women's body's are going to have trouble either way, and sometimes it's just not the bodies time. Good luck! Don't worry the Dr's do know what they're doing.
i was induced almost 3 weeks ago now and i was scared to death but i knew it had to happen. when i went it they hooked me up to an iv type thing which started the meds and nothing really happened for a while and a nurse came in and kept uping the dose every 20 mins and i was 3 cm dialated when i was checked the first time i was 39 weeks and 4 days prego. they told me to wait for the doc to show up and break my water but i would advise if your going to get an epi get it asap cause i waited till the doc came and i litterly went from 3cm to 9cm in 15 mins and you have to get 2 bags of iv's b4 you can get an epi and i was pretty much having my son as they were tring to give me an epi. the inducing part was fine just the stupid nurse telling me i couldent get an epi till it was pretty much to late. once they got the epi in and i layed back down my son was alrdy crowing. and like 4 sets of pushes he was here. i was only in labor for 6 hrs and 4 mins and when i deside to have nother kid i will be induced again it gives you more peace of mind cause you dont have to worrie about being rushed to the hospital and all that what not you show up they give you meds and soon you have your baby. sorry its a little chopy im a bit add sorry.
I just wanted to add as well that the ultrasound estimates of the baby's weight can be WAAAAY off. At 38 weeks with my son the ultrasound said he was AT LEAST 10 pounds. I was induced at 39 weeks exactly, not fully because of that but I'm also a diabetic....he was born weighing 6 pounds 10 ounces. Hardly 10+ pounds!!!

^ ^ ^ This! These stories happen all the time. The fact of the matter is, being induced for weight is really not a good idea (especially @ 38 weeks) because how much they weigh has no bearing on how developed their lungs are, KWIM?
So you could go in, the weight is off by up to 2 lbs -- baby only weighs 5-6 pounds but because they're early, his/her lungs are not fully developed. Baby ends up in NICU. (The only way to tell if the baby's lungs are developed is if they do an amnio) where they stick a needle through your belly and pull a sample through a syringe.
Because there is no reliable way to determine a babies size until it is born it is not a good idea to induce early for a suspected larger baby. The size you were given isnt even big, even ACOG advices against early inductions for possible large babies.
There is no reliable way to determine your babies size until it is born, ultrasounds can be off by pounds!
Throughout the world, there exists a group of women who feel mightily drawn to giving care to women in childbirth. At the same time maternal and independent, responsive to a mother's needs, yet accepting full responsibility as her attendant; such women are natural midwives. Without the presence and acceptance of the midwife, obstetrics becomes aggressive, technical, and inhuman.

This may not have ANYTHING to do with it........
Have you looked at a calendar? Isn't that REALLY close to thanksgiving. Maybe you should casually ask "Hey doc! Whatcha doin for thanksgiving?" He might want to take some time off and would rather not be disturbed w/ you going into labor spontaneously.
Or it could be just a coincidence.
I was induced at 38 weeks because I had a big baby and my water started leaking.
Anyways, They started pitocin on me and finished breaking my water at 9am.. I was 3cm 95%efaced & 0 station.. I was that for 1 week before getting induced. At 10:30 am I was 4 1/2 cm and they gave me an epi because I was having horrible contractions. at 11:45am I was 7cm and at 12noon I was fully dialated. I pushed for an hour and 1/2, one because I was exhausted from not sleeping the night before and everything happened so fast I didnt have time to rest and two he got stuck.
It wasnt a bad expeirence. I kept myself calm and I had family all around keeping my mind off of how bad the contractions hurt.
He was 8lbs 2oz 19inches.. The U/S the did the day before said he was 7lbs.
Good Luck though :)
