Well, you're probably on bedrest because they want your little one to stay in until 37 weeks or a little longer. As for the induciton, not sure.
This is my first pregnancy. I have heard horror stories about induction but also I have heard wonderful stories. Every woman is different. Some people are totally against it and some women request it. My sister had a long labor with induction and it was pretty rough but my nurse at my OB's office was induced and had her baby in four or five hours with no problem at all. I know it is really nerveracking. I will be 37 weeks Wednesday. I have been on and off of bedrest with extremely bad swelling. My blood pressure was 167/98 last Thursday at my appt. and my swelling is getting bad even with being on maternity leave. I have no protein in my urine but now my OB wants to induce me early also. If my blood pressure is high next Thursday we will probably induce before Thanksgiving so I am nervous like you are.
Just try to relax and know your doctor wants best for you and baby. Also you may have the easiest induction ever...You never know.
They do want the baby to cook as much as possible, that is why they have you on bedrest and all that, just to try and keep you from going any sooner than you have to. But at 80% efaced and 1 cm (everyone is different) you could just go on your own anytime. And who knows, maybe your baby is ready to come out, I'm sure the Dr.s just want to be extra careful..but don't worry about being induced..I was induced at exactly 38 weeks with my daughter, and it really wasn't a big deal, no complications or anything, she was just going to be a big baby so they wanted to get her out before 9lbs. They put my on pitocin at 6 am (which helps you contract and dialate) and by 10 pm she was here..nothing went wrong..the only thing that sucked was the hours of labor and lack of sleep.
If you dont want to be induced tell them no. They cant force you to and if everything is ok there is no need to. As for the bedrest, its probably to keep your baby in there longer since it looks like your body is starting to go into labor a little early.

Did they have to give you the cervadil? I think that's what it is...I guess I could google it. I have shown no progress yet and they are wanting to induce me soon.
First off if you were having horrible back pain, your baby may be posterier which can cause a very hard labor. I would ask your dr about that and then research ways to get the baby to move into a better position. There definitely are ways.
Next, I would refuse an induction. Most of the time they end badly. Right now your body is probably just preparing for labor, but it could still be weeks. My sister in law was put on bed rest at 34 weeks b/c they thought she was going to have the baby early and then she didn't have the baby until she was induced at 41 weeks.
I wouldn't be worried either way at 37 weeks you will be full term. Just relax!
it's really simple. You can ask why, and if it seems lame, you say you don't want to be induced. I absolutely would not get induced if I were in your position just based on the info you said. You are obviously going to go into labor on your own in the next 4 weeks. I say you're fine!!! Doctors are way to quick to induce and call c-sections, it makes me sick--I hate doctors!
I was induced with my first son. I had high blood pressure and protein in my urine. They did blood tests that all came back normal, but because of my blood pressure and the protein they induced me anyway. It was 16 days before my due date. Everything went fine! The started me on pitocin, broke my water and 5 hours from starting the pictocin I had my baby. I did have an epidural though... If you HAVE to be induced it will be ok.
