Early ultra sounds - when???

When was your first ultra sound?  When I was pregnant with my son (now 2) I didn't have one until about 9weeks!! Then I had a molar pregnancy last year and we found that at my first U/S at 7 weeks.  Now i am scared to death that this will be another moler - I would be devastated - that I both want the U/S now and don't want it at all!!! KWIM?  I haven't even called my Dr yet, but when is the earliest that they can see something.  I mean the first week that an U/S will show that it is a fetus developing and not something else?  Anyone know?

i had my first u/s at 6wks and some days and it showed the little baby, not just the sac. i think thats the earliers any dr will get you in. the only reason i got in that early, is because i was getting follow up u/s for my IVF. good luck!

Well it all depends on your dr. My dr won't do a first ultrasound until 15 weeks and then at 20 weeks for the gender. I had some spotting though so I got my first ultrasound done at 12 weeks.  I agree with the other ladies though, I think it's around 6 weeks that you can really see something.

My very first u/s with this baby was done at 8 weeks and we saw the head, body, arms, and legs. I would think 8-9 weeks would be the earliest but I know some women who do it at 6 weeks and see the baby. It just depends on how the baby is growing. Good luck mama!

My doctor won't do a first Ultrasound until I'm 8 wks. I wish it was sooner so I would know that everything was ok. =( My first prenatal app is Feb 18th when I'll be 8 weeks so we'll schedule something then.

With my son my first (and Only) U/S wasn't until 18wks, and with this one im having one done at 12wks (which is tomorrow yay) and another at 18wks. But after being on here and hearing stories i wish my dr office did them sooner for piece of mind! Good luck I agree im sure they won't do one any sooner than 6wks or so!

Well, I know my Dr will do it early, because I am high risk for another molar, so he'll want to check as soon as possible.  I just was wondering how early he could even see anything.  i am guessing 6 weeks is the absolute earliest.  Gosh that's still 2 weeks away!  I just wnat to know whether to start getting my hopes up or not!!

Thanks girls!

The earliest I've heard is 4 to 5 weeks along and u will mostly likely see just a black hole to a black hole with a small embryonic sack.  My first u/s I was just at 5 weeks (estimated) and all we saw was a black hole... last Thursday we saw a black hole with an embryonic sack. we saw some movement but it wasn't defiant enough to say it was a heart beat (estimated 6 weeks).  You should be able to see to see a heart beat between the 6th and 7th week.  Unfortunately these were done with an internal u/s... the reason they took the u/s so early is I had a mc in sept. I'm going to guess that your Dr. is going to keep an eye on you and the baby since you have had difficulties in the past.   Good luck and best wishes!

I have some issues making me a higher risk pregnancy. I am 7 weeks now and I had an U/S and 4weeks, 5 days (showed sac) and at 6 weeks, 4days (showed tiny "bean" and heard heartbeat).

Both my past OB offices have done then between 6-7 weeks.
