Prometrium

I skipped my period this month, so my obgyn gave me prometrium to start my period.  Has anyone else taken this? I'm supposed to take it for 7 days and when I'm done, my progesterone levels will drop, causing me to have my AF.   If I were to get pregnant while on this, would I lose the baby?  It's also making me really crampy and giving me diarrhea.  I have to call a fertility specialist in the morning and I'm just praying for a miracle before I have some invasive things done.  If you've taken this medicine, could you let me know what you know?

I took it when I have a false ovarian pregnancy several years ago. I dont think u can get prego on it. I started within a couple of days after I finished me last pill. I also cramped and had bathroom issues. Hope this helps. Oh yea my cycle was heavier that month than it usually was also.

I took when I was pregnant last year.  I later miscarried anyway, but my progesterone levels were too low and I needed it to increase the levels.  I don't know if you can get pregnant while on it, but I wouldn't think it would hurt anything if you did.  Good luck!

I've taken it, but only as protocol for an IVF cycle. I'm not sure hwo much help that is, but it can have those side effects, yes. I started cramping when I started my progesterone (not prometrium- I'm doing IM injections *sigh*) and I have known women who have had problems with diarrhea initially.

It's unlikely that you would get pregnant during this time, but I wouldn't be trying if I were you. Progesterone is the hormone that sustains a pregnancy, so when you stop it your body will be cued to slough the lining of your uterus.

Good luck!

My fertility specialist puts me on prometrium after IUI because if I do get preggo, it will help the embryo to stick better. He said he may want me to take it for a while after I get preggo to sustain the pregnancy.
