I keep seeing posts of people that have been TTC for 6 months, sometimes less, and getting discouraged. I don't want to discredit their emotions and frustration...but sometimes I just want to slap them and say "Come talk to me in two years with no baby, and we'll see how you feel." (Note: I don't say this. I know there is no quantifying the pain of TTC.)
Anyway...I was wondering what, technically, qualifies as "long term TTC"?
That's terrific! That is what I'm trying to do now. I was diagnosed with hypothyroid and the more weight I gained the further apart my periods became. I lost just 5 lbs and it came! It felt like a miracle! So my cycles were 30 days, the last one 31 and now Im sitting here praying I get it today so its 32 and that, to me, is still normal! I think Ill keep trying to lose the weight. Blah.

Weightloss did help. It made my AF regular. A 28 day cycle! I waited a 4 months to make sure it was staying the same an it did.
Quoting Tiffersmu:Do you mind if I ask you how much you weighed before TTC? Do you really feel the weightloss helped?
Quoting ariesmommy84:
Tool me almost 3 years and 90lbs lost to finally get my bfp.
I'd say you're a lttc :(
Also, did you go through any testing or anything? Did a dr tell you it was your weight or was it something you did on your own? My doctor says, "it might help" but she doesnt see me having any issues. Well we have been "not preventing" pregnancy since July 2010 and this is getting old.

Thank You! It gives me hope that its really just something this small (as if losing weight is easy, grrrr) that could be holding me back. My dr said that fat stores estrogen so losing weight helps release it!
Quoting ariesmommy84:
Good job! Once I lost about 20 lbs try we're about 56 days then the smaller I got the more regular they came. At about 60lbs they were regular

how tall are you? how much did you weigh?
Quoting ariesmommy84:
I had all those tests ran on me. And nothing was wrong me with me. They told me I was overweight and that's why I wasn't preggo. Well I didn't believe them. But they were right.

I also consider myself as long term too. it's been almost ten months for us but I had my first unplanned pregnancy when I was 16 (I wouldn't change it for the world) and sense then I've always wanted more but never been in the position up until I met my DH we got married almost 2 years ago and decided to ttc almost a year after that and I thought it was going to happen right after that but God was thinking something else. Every time AF comes every month I think WOW how long is He going to make me wait.
In my doctor's mind that "reset" the standard year that they make you wait before they start testing...do this time around, I had to wait for a whole year before anyone would even listen to me tht something was wrong. It wasn't until my first cyst ruptured that I and my OB finally realized just how WRONG something was.
We temp, time intercourse, an are having multiple tests done, as we are able to afford them. I just had my TSH and FSH tested yesterday. I should know the results today or tomorrow.
Quoting LJC6780:I am just curious.. (as you, not to discredit emotions..) What routes are you taking while TTC? At home through natural intercourse? At home using a cup of some sort to hold the sperm in? At home, sex, fertility meds? At a Clinic, fertility meds, IUI? At a Clinic, fertility meds, IVF? Have you had any testing done (blood tests, ultrasounds, dye tests...)??
I am just curious.. because with each next step the chances are increased.. or potential problems are found and possibly corrected..
We went straight to IUI because we are using donor sperm and wanted our best chances (other than doing it at home) and have done 3 now, with fertilty meds, and still nothing.. this during 5 cycles of meds.. even on the meds, I didn't ovulate 2 consecutive cycles.. it's very frustrating to go through all that with the meds, and a horrible emotional roller coaster because of the meds, and then to have a huge let down..
Time wise, I can't understand.. at least not at this point.. but I DO understand the hope of success and just getting that BFN or AF or not even being able to try that cycle because follicles withdrew and no ovulation! It gets harder and harder to stay positive..
I DID just get an HSG test done and fallopian tubes are open! So that makes me a bit more hopeful to try again.. :-)
I feel you. My husband and I had decided when we were married to play the wait and see game, because I have PCOS so we figured if it happened Naturally, GREAT. But why spend money on trying to conceive when we didn't mind waiting. Little did I realize majority of my friends were NOT trying to conceive, but wound up pregnant. :|They would complain and complain about everything! It was really hard for me.. I would gladly have morning sickness. I would gladly be tired. Because I would LOVE to bring someone into this world.
I would consider you a long term TTC> myself, I would not. Yes, its been 4 years now since we took our wait and see approach, and sadly that hasn't done anything for us. So now we are starting. Eating more fruits and veggies. I stopped drinking any caffiene and alcohol. Taking vitamins, drinking fertilitea. (I had taken Chasteberry to regulate my cycles but then I couldn't find it! Purchased this tea because it has it in it) Also tracking everything, and taking daily ovulation tests. Next step (in maybe a yearish if something doesn't happen) is to go to a doctor.
Good luck! I hope you are soon blessed with a little bundle of joy!
