so we are just ttc, but i emailed our insurance about coverage
and they said they only cover one ultra sound unless medically necessary.
which i know you have to have more then that to check development, to me that would be medically needed to make sure everything is ok
my question is that what they mean by medically needed
Maybe they are an odd company and will only cover it unless the doc thinks something wrong with the baby or it could mean only for health problems like if something were wrong with your heart and they had a to an ultra sound and this doesnt count towards being pregnant. Kind of hard to say so i would give them a call and ask.
A lot of places only do one ultrasound around 20 weeks. Medically needed may be because you don't know your LMP (to check dates), your measuring too big or too small, or your not gaining weight. I had a lot in the beginning due to spotting and then they found a cyst (completely normal) but they wanted to make sure it shrunk and didn't get any bigger. Then I had one at 20 weeks and then they did another around 30 some weeks because I was measuring big, My sister only ever had one ultrasound with her first two pregnancies.
