TTC confusion with the stupid AF/Ovulation/Conception math

Okay...I'm so confused its not even funny....
I thought I had all this ovulation, AF, implantation stuff down....you get your period...whatever your cycle is you ovulate about halfway through...if you have sex around that time you can get pregnant...implantation happens within a week or so of conception....am I on the right track so far?

Apparently what I am misinformed about is the time that all of this can take. I read that after you ovulate spermies can live for up to a week before meeting the egg.
So lets say you have sex...it can be up to five days later before you actually conceive...correct?
And if implantation can take up to 10 days...you could be almost 3wks PAST the time you had sex before your body even realizes  you're pregnant? And to top that all off....you have to build up HCG in your system..so it could be another few weeks after that before an HPT will show up positive?

So if I'm understanding my own crazy as math correctly...you could have sex and it could take up to a month after before you'd ever get a BFP?

The reason I ask is I'm not actively TTC right now...if it happens okay but we're going to start "trying" in the fall. I haven't even gotten my first period back after having the baby...I peed on an ovulation stick the other night (cuz I was bored and they were there lol) and there was absolutely NO 2nd line...so I'm no where NEAR ovulating...but today I started spotting...if I was getting my period wouldn't I at leas see a faint "you missed your ovulation haha" line on the OPK??? And we have been DTD but we've used condoms, but we know that isn't 100% And I know that after you have a baby you're like insanely fertile
so yah...I'm confused

Seriously as I read this..if I can't figure this out I really shouldn't have kids...how will I ever help them with their homework.

Once you o the egg only lives for at the most 24 hours. Which is why it incredibly increases your odds of conceiving if you chart your bb temps, cm and use opks.

Sperm can live for up to 6 days but  your egg can only live for 12-24 hrs. So that's why they say to have sex even before you O so the sperm will be waiting for the egg. As far as OPK's go, it's not a positive unless the line is as dark as or darker than the control line. If you're currently breastfeeding your chances of ovulating are pretty slim. You can test up to a few days before your AF is expected to get a BFP depending on the brand test you use. HOpe this helps

I started temping a year ago last month when my baby was 7 months old in hopes of catching the first egg. I didn't o until ds was almost 10 months old, I was breast feeding him, but even when I od my Lp was still short due to the breast feeding hormones prolactin. I delt with a lpd for 11 cycles until I started using npc after o and it was enough to prolong my Lp and allow an egg to implant!!!

Highly suggest temping and reading the book taking charge of your fertility.

I also suggest that you get the book Taking Control of Your Fertility, this would clear up alot of your questions that you have. You can get it on Amazon for like $14.

It depends on the woman. Depends on when you ovulate, how long your cycles are, when you get implantation, ect.

Example: I have a regular 28-day cycle. I O usually around days 13-15. With my first two DD's, I was able to get a BFP about 5 days before I missed my period. So, that would mean that I was only a month pregnant when I found out.

For someone with a longer cycle, if they O later, then it could take longer to get a BFP. I think your math may be a little off too. There are tons of articles and books that can help you understand it a little better, good luck!
