I've been put on Metformin for my diabetes. I'm taking 500mg aday that's 1 pill in the morning. I've heard that Metformin is also use to help with ovulation. I have some questions for you ladies that have or is using it for TTC. Question #1 if you have use this an gotten pregnant how long did it take? Question #2 How many mg are you taking? Did you have any side effects with this medication? I ask that question because I've been on it for 3 days now and have been running to the bathroom like crazy doing the #2 (tmi sorry). Question #4 I was wondering if this has happened to you an how long did the side effectsts last for you?

I'm on Metformin for PCOS and insulin resistance. I don't know if it helps with ovulation, but Met has allowed me to drop over 60 pounds in 4 months. I'm only on 500mg a day so no side effects at all. If I want to ovulate I take Clomid.

I started taking 1000mg of Metformin in January 2011 and found out I was pregnant the end of August/beginning of September of 2011. I'm about to have a baby in 4 days. I also took one round of Clomid and was going to start another after speaking with a fertility specialist but never made it that far. When I first started Metformin it made me a little queasy but nothing too bad and eventually that went away.

Metformin can really only aid in TTC if you have problems ovulating due to PCOS.  I do have PCOS and take 1000mg twice daily.  Most common side effects are digestive, take it easy on the refined sugars, carbs and dairy and you should be fine.  In fact at that dosage you probably won't have much of a problem with that once you get used to it.  It takes a week or so.  Your bathroom issue is not that uncommon.  Watch your diet carefully for the next few days and that will help.

I take 1000mg a day in one dose at bedtime. I take it for treatment of PCOS, not for fertility issues. I am not currently TTC. Metformin is hard on the stomach and takes some time to get used to. For the first two weeks or so, I was always running to the bathroom as well. Your body does get used to it!

I have been on Met for about a year now. I have PCOS. This is what I understand. You will get Diarriah and stomach upset if you do not eat right. The more carbs you intake the more the side effects. Met is the main thing they do for PCOS. You have to diet and exercise. Basically if you have PCOS you have High Insilen Resistance. For me I make too much and my body does not use it properly. If you have high insin it can build up around your reproduction system making it harder for one to reproduce. Met is sused to reduce the insulin and can help you to get pregnant.  I asked what else I could do besides Met and the dr. said there is nothing else to help with PCOS and it was not until resently that they used Met to help with PCOS. They used to just sent people home and that was that.
