I spend the most time in this group, so I would much rather talk/vent/hear from you ladies than anywhere else!
SO! Had a good day at work, AF is getting lighter should be gone in a couple of days, overall, pretty good! DD (7) has a ballgame tonight, we're finally winding down her season. Just a little explanation for those who may not be familiar with softball: if a player is listed on the lineup and is unable to bat for whatever reason, but no substitute is put in her place, her team must take an out every time she is up to bat.
Now, DD's team is pretty good, they're in first place and the team they played tonight has not been much competition the whole season, BUT that's no reason to be lenient on the rules in their favor. This is the age they learn fundamentals, so what is that teaching them? Anyway! We noticed and reported several times that they were batting out of order, which normally calls for an out if caught and reported immediately. The outs were never given.
The third time our scorekeeper reported the mishap, we got together with their scorekeeper to compare. Well, here comes a mom, "my daughter cut her foot, that's why she can't bat". My response is "well, ma'am, I'm sorry she's hurt but unless she has a replacement, it's an out if she can't bat." She just wasn't having it, "that's not fair". Well, I'm SO glad you expect ASA to change the rules they've had in place for well over 25 years (the length of time I've been playing ball) just because it doesn't accomodate your daughter, doesn't work that way!
We finally just let it go, our girls were winning anyway. But next week is their end of season tournament and these rules will be strictly enforced, so we're trying to get them used to them now. So we go back to playing, one of their girls gets a good hit to right field, but she oversteps first base. Ump sees it, but he can't call it unless we see it and call it. The girl gets to third. I tell our catcher to throw the ball to first then tell first baseman to touch the base. Ump calls safe! WHAT?!?!?! Then looks at our coach and says "I saw it but I'm not gonna call it because ya'll are already winning." That has nothing to do with it!!! It's the rule for a reason! It was just all around bad!
Finally, our scorekeeper calls the local commissioner and reports the ump to him. Before we left the park we saw them talking, so hopefully he calls fair next game! Especially hope that he doesn't decide to take this out on us when we play the team his granddaughter plays for, which is the only team who gives us any competition! We've beaten them twice, they've beaten us once and we tied with them once. It's ALWAYS a good game when our two teams meet up! Maybe they won't let him call that game!
Ok, I'm done with that little frustration!! LOL! Back to TTC! I bought OPKs today!! Hopefully it will help this month! If not, I'm going to stop charting and everything, just let this happenon it's own!
