Here is our story.
My baby girl Abigail was born may 20th, 2008. She was 8lbs, 4 oz., 1 week overdue, completely perfect and healthy. We went through 3 doctors before we found one that we liked. But by 5 months old, we had our set pedi. Well everything went good for us then I started noticing that Abigail couldn't support her weight on her legs and when she tried getting up on all fours, he legs would spread. So when she wasn't crawling at 9 months, at her well check I told her pedi I was concerned and so she checked and said her right hip was clicking. So they sent us for xrays, called me back and said she's got HD on her right hip. So we took her to an ortho doc here (in between appointments she started crawling) and he looked at the xrays and said he didn't see it. I wasn't satisfied with that answer because I knew something was wrong. So I asked for a referral out of town to a specialist.
So the day she turned 15 months we saw the new ortho and they said she needed a brace, but only to sleep in. I was sad, but I was glad that I didn't settle with the other docs answer. ALso, none of her 3 pedis caught it until I mentioned it. If they would have then we would have gotten it taken care of alot sooner.
Anyway, she wore that brace for 3 months and we went back and they gave her a bigger brace since she has grown. So now at 19 months she still wears her "cowgirl pants", and she does it happily. She is definently a trooper. She only cried the first night.
I wish I would have found this group earlier. When I first found out I was freaking out and nobody really understood. Every other baby was walking before their 1st birsthday and Abigail walked at 14 months(walking increased significantly 2 weeks after she got the brace).
I am very proud of her and if only we could get better about not doing the W sitting then we'd be good =)
