So, my DD (21 months old) had been sick with what I thought was a regular cold. That's how it started out. And when she wasn't getting better, even after only a couple days, I took her to the doctor because she had a low grade fever... Anyone I talked to said it was normal and nothing to worry about... But I can't help but think "I know there's more to it." She just wasn't herself.

So, I called her doctors office on Sunday, and the nurse I spoke to said everything sounded normal. Even though she slept all night the night before, and all day that day... Her heart was RACING, so fast. And I could only keep the fever down with Tylenol, which I hate giving to her because it can mess up your liver. She just wasn't herself... DH and I both knew there was more to it, and had even looked up pnemonia. We had a feeling that's what it was. And decided if she wasn't better by morning, I would take her to the doc (since he had work). I didn't take her in the morning, because she seemed like she was over it, and he fever started going down, but it was still at 99.8 At 10:30 she fell asleep and I just let her sleep, still checking on her every now and then. But by 12, she was up, SCREAMING. Nothing I did calmed her down. So, I called my husband at work, and got his supervisor to bring me the car (we only have one) and RUSHED to her docs office to the walk in. She was still cranky, but not crying.

The doc looked at her and just said, "I can just see in her eyes how sick she is." She listened to her chest and said it sounded like pnemonia and that she was going to do some x rays. I couldn't go in there with her, since I'm pregnant and she cried... But they determined that she did in fact have it. And sent us to the pediatric part of the hospital to get her admitted. It took TWO HOURS to get an IV in her arm, and she screamed and screamed and screamed. I had to try and keep her calm, and it was SO hard not to cry while she was so miserable. She actually fell asleep while they were trying to get the needle in her vein. It was under her skin already, but not in the vain. They were having so much trouble because she was also dehydrated.

We stayed in the hospital for two nights and she slept all the rest of the day when we got in her room, till the time they brought her breakfast that she didn't eat. She had to stay on oxygen in order for her oxygen levels to be ok. The first night was hard because her monitor kept going off from her oxygen. She was sleeping hard, and they said it was normal. But she was feeling a little better by the next day but still not wanting any food. She didn't eat dinner last night, but she did eat breakfast this morning. And we were able to go home. She went off her oxygen last night, and the monitor and she was doing wonderful. We're home now, and she's active, playing and running her mouth. :) She is still on antibiotics and has a follow up appt on Tuesday. I am just glad I went with my gut and got her checked out when I did. And sorry this is so long. It was just super hard to see my flesh and blood as sick as she was... Let's hope she stays better, like I know she will :)

I'm so glad that she's okay!

It's hard seeing your children in pain. My son has a very rare genetics disease, and so he's been in the hospital numerous times, he's terrified of neetles and IV's because of it. The first time he was ever admitted to stay over night he'd was 15 months old, and I cried so hard cause I had to hold him down and restrain him while the tried to find a tiny vein. It was heartbreaking. BUT I'm glad that your daughter is doing so much better and feels so much better.

I am glad to hear that she is doing better. I am also glad you went with your gut instincts. Although reassurance is nice form other on the temp, it is always nice to go with your gut instinct on if there is something wrong, especially if non of us are there to see it first hand.
