So to those of you who have toddlers or school age children. When did you start teaching or LO's numbers, shapes and letters..or anything else. And what did you use to teach them? I am looking into workbooks but they are mostly for older children. My daughter is almost 2 1/2 and I would like to start. I know she does this stuff at daycare so was just curious as to what you all think.

Start from birth. you don't need books and such. anything can be turned into a lesson in numbers or alphabet, and a real life example with stick much better than a workbook anyway.

I would get kid books that talk about those things. Like I have one about sheep and it teaches colors. (Can't think of the name at the moment.) It was very helpful for DD2. :)

Lol, yea. i guess what i meant is that while books are nice to supplement, they aren't necessary. she can learn colors from a walk outside or by reading just a normal book. counting she can also learn from nature : " look ___ that tree has three leaves. lets count together". that type of thing. it didn't take Ds long to learn 1-10 because i spent so much time doing that. just remember that children live in the world much more than we do, so anything you try to teach will stick much better if accompanied by a real world example.
