but I have a question...

when do fully potty trained kids start to wipe their own butts? my son is 3.5 and has been potty trained for over a year... he yells for me when he is done going potty so I can clean his butt...  and now I'm wondering if I should start teaching him how to do it and how much TP to use and stuff... I have no problem wiping him, I like knowing he is clean and not clogging my toilet... but.. at what age is it a good Idea to start having him do it on his own??

I waited until my son had been using the potty about 6 months. He's 4 now and I don't have to help him. Which is good, cause I'm enrolling him in head start. Good luck. :)

I have no clue and that is a good question and seeing as I am potty training my DD I would like to know that answer. So here is a BUMP.

I should add that when I potty trained my girls, I had them wipe themselves from the start.

I was thinking... do I just take the TP in his hand and show him how to wipe with my hand on his hand? or just tell him... cuz right now he just drops the TP in the toilet with out wiping... I just wanna know he is getting clean..

Oh this can go on for a few years especially after a really big poop.  Teaching him now to wipe is a good idea.

I just don't know what an appropriate/effective way to TEACH him HOW would be?...

If you feel comfortable, modeling for him ... you sit on the commode while he sits on his and you show him.
