Hello Mommies I'm thinking about moving to Durham in September I'm currently in Illinois I need a change. So I guess the question I'm asking is are there any areas I need to stay away from (bad neighborhoods). What are the schools like and how cold is it in the winter anything helps TIA= Thanks in Advance

Durham is a great place to live, however like many other areas crime is a reality.  I have lived in the area incident free for th epast six years.  I great area to check out is southpoint area, 27713.    its pretty safe, good schools and there are plenty of apartments, shops and homes in the area.  Plus it gives you a nice spring board to explore other parts of the county (more urban and suburban).

We typically get 1-2 snowfalls a year no more than 3 inches.   It generally pretty mild. Good luck.

Poor Durham gets such a bad rep!  Yes, it does have its crime and bad areas, as do all cities, but I have lived in various areas of Durham over the past six years with no incident.  I'm  sorry I can't recommend specific areas for you.  Yes, the southpoint area is very nice, but then there are also areas downtown that have been beautifully restored in the past years that are wonderful as well.  Alas, Durham can be difficult in that you can move from a very posh neighborhood to a very bad one within a block or two.  My favorite thing about Durham is your ability to live near everything and yet find a home in a rather country setting.
